I am new to the forum and have searched and read a lot but can't find the answer. I am learning a lot though, thanks for all the great posts.

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo and would like to add an aftermarket amplifier and subs to my factory system. Does anybody have any advice on how to connect the amp to the factory head unit while continuing to use the factory amp for the highs and mids?

Any help will be appreciated

You need a line level converter.

You run the power and ground just like you would normally, then take your remote turn on and either tap into the HU with it, or tap into the turn on wire in the factory amp.

Then, your rca's plug into the line level converter and you wire that in.

Here's how to pass the power wire through to the cabin.

what makes you want to use stock deck over aftermarket? aftermarket is easy and will sound a lot better.

Get the T harness and keep the stock radio in the trunk or under one of the seats so you are able to keep the features (turn off tire and oil monitoring lights etc). Aftermarket head units sound so much better especially if you replace the factory amp while you're at it Very Happy

Thanks for the advice guys....it helps! I am staying with the factory head unit for now because I don't have the money for a new radio. I have the amp and subs left over from my previous car, but not the radio.
Thanks again
