This would be the first post since GM made it official.

I hope its the Commodore they used for the G8. If its the Caprice like what they're using for police duty, it'll be most depressing looking "performance" car ever.

At least they aren't recycling a heritage nameplate...

The name is no less creative than Ford's GT. We all know how terrible that car was. Rolling Eyes

There have been a few articles hinting about it but as helldo said it's only now been officially announced by GM. I'm honestly surprised they're doing this. I also agree if it's just a version of the Caprice I'm not interested.

Then again, the Commodore used as the G8 is pretty old in it's life cycle now, perhaps there's a new Commodore coming that this will be based on. I'll be interested to see what the actual car will look like along with specs.

Great car indeed, the big difference was the Ford GT was a remake of the GT-40. Legal issues prevented them from using GT-40 hence the late model nameplate.

Taking a trim level 'SS' and making a model out of it is just a lack of creativity IMO. I'm sure it will be a great car, just wish they put some effort into a name or at least brought back a worthy nameplate Cool [/i]

hmmm this could be interesting. It might even take the place of a 96ss in my wishlist of cars. thats setting pretty high hopes but I love the idea of a rear wheel drive chevy sedan. Sedans are sexy!

More info on the updated VF Commodore.

http://news.drive.com.au/drive.....1x2bi.html

GM is taking advantages of the model refresh for the Commodore to lower the cost on changes necessary to make it ready for the US again. So at least it won't be a 6 year old vehicle by the time its available in 2014.

I hope its more like the G8 GXP in terms of performance and legitimizes the SS nameplate, and not under performing. There'd be nothing more embarrassing than to have a limited edition SS model that's easily beat by a SRT-8 Charger / 300 or Taurus SHO.

It probably likely was the rumored legal issues for the naming, but the original GT40 was 40 inches tall (and was named as such because of that). The new one is 43 inches tall, so the name technically wouldn't make sense anyway.

Since Nascar has nothing in common with road cars, I'll wait to see some roadgoing specs and images before I make any real comments about the new SS.

Well here you go folks. Face lifted GXP. Only option is a sunroof. A little surprised it's only available in an automatic. Hopefully it eventually gets the 6 speed manual. Also a little disappointing it gets the same LS3 with same horsepower as the GXP did in 2009. Interior looks good.

And the Holden version which I think looks better even though they're pretty much the same. I think it's the color and darker finish wheels I like better since I hate chrome.
