I have a vibration that I'm trying to locate.
It reminds me of a bad spot on tire, a steady pulsing matching the wheel speed. The vibration is just transmitting through the frame, I don't feel it in the steering wheel. I think it is coming from the front end, but I'm not positive.
I can notice it from about 20mph and anything faster. It's not any louder or stronger at different speeds, just faster, matching the wheel speed.
There is no effect at all on the steering. I can release my grip on the steering wheel at 60 mph and the car stays perfectly straight, and the steering wheel doesn't wobble at all.
The vibration doesn't change at all when I brake, either lightly or heavy.
There is no change when shifting gears, and no change if I put it in neutral.
The bearings and ball joints all look to be good.
I recently replaced both front axles, which didn't help this problem.
If I grab the housing of the passenger-side inner CV joint, there is more play than I would expect between the axle and the transmission. I'm not sure what that is supposed to feel like, but I can rock it up and down and side to side more than I would expect.
Could this be something in the transmission wearing out? I don't know much about what's inside there, but I've been gradually ruling out all of my initial suspects.
