I finally had some time to figure out if I blew a speaker, an amp or my head unit. Initially I thought I had a blown speaker, but I traced it down to a bad channel on my amplifier (the horrible sound occured with any speaker attached to that channel on the amp). Tonight I picked up some wiring harnesses and wired up the rear speakers directly to the head unit. Turns out the drivers side rear channel on the head unit is blown.

I've never experienced anything like this before. Does anyone know if its possible to blow a channel on a head unit such that it ruins the sound quality on both the pre-out and speaker out?

I spent some more time messing with the stereo and determined the stereo has blown a channel internally somehow. I've resigned myself to getting a new stereo and now I can't find a reasonably priced head unit with a rear USB so I don't have to stare at a cable/iPod all the time...

Do you happen to know if Pioneer ever figured out the issue they were having with the pico fuses blowing? The whine I get out of the one I have is absolutely maddening.

Well the 80PRS is still very new but I havent heard about a pico fuse issue with it yet..

The pico went on my 800PRS a while ago, but it was an easy fix, with a fine tip soldering iron I simply removed the fuse and bridged the connection with solder (about 1mm wide). After that, no problems for 2+ years until I replaced it with a P99RS.

I've really been enjoying a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD that I've had installed for awhile. It is a touch screen DVD unit with a rear USB, iPod control, and a slot for SD memory. The unit looks right at home in the dash and it also plays cd's. It wasn't an incredibly low budget model when I invested but I suspect that street prices may have significantly reduced by now! I have had no fuse issues and find the look, functionality and performance very pleasing! Just my $.02 Cool
