So i finally had my seepy steering rack replaced... with the ss model. As expected, my steering wheel now has about .44 fewer turns. It is actually quite nice. Its like turning the sensitivity up on your computer mouse/trackpad. Here is the wheel at full turn before:

and here it is with it turned all the way left with the new hardware:

got the idea for the 'mod' from this:

taken from one of the impala manuals

edit: Just realized the turning circle is 1.6 feet larger for the ss... is that dependent on the rack and pinion as well? Did i actually downgrade...?

depends on what your goal was, were you looking for a smaller turning radius or a tighter steering ratio

Looks like the steering ratio is the same between the l36 and l67 cars, its just the turning radius that is different.

Unless that is a misprint.

I've heard of Grand Prix guys swapping in steering racks from the GXP. I wonder if that would be compatible and how the steering ratio compares.
