Without looking it up I remember it as being on the Neon platform, but with changes to the rear suspension so they could call it a truck, like for all I know maybe they wanted the EPA to call it a truck for CAFE purposes, just guessing. Maybe the suspension change was to get a wider load floor?

The concept was a 2 door fixed roof which never saw production. The only 2 door produced was a ragtop. Before PT got as far as production it was called Plymouth Pronto. It was a massive hit at auto shows(retro panel look was in style) but those people were bluffing. Tricked into production and then decided to shop elsewhere. Who knows whether it brought people into the showrooms who ended up buying Neons? Maybe served its purpose.

Remember all those people who bought the PT Cruiser or the Camaro or the Prowler at WAY above sticker because they HAD to have the first model year?

At least the Prowler was unique. I've ridden in one before and it was super-comfortable, and a total attention grabber. The Camaro is fat, and even if the newer, higher-up models handle and compare well to the Mustang, they could still do with a little less size and a lot less weight. How did the PT Cruiser get in here? Upside-down bathtub on wheels.

It might've been an upside down bath rub on wheels, but dealers were still charging a $5k premium on them when they first came out, and getting it.

Chevy SSR did the same thing and that was a lark for being a "performance" vehicle, and was grossly overpriced to begin with. It was a modified Trailblazer sitting underneath.

Any vehicle that can generate a high demand with limited initial suppy, will see a related dealer gouging. They don't have to be retro or unique, just enough dummies who want it first.

Honestly, the Impala has been one of the most talked to-be vehicles of the last decade- and not in a good way- I'm wondering (and kind of hoping) that's gonna change this time.

I've even heard it from several editors and auto journalists the new Impala looks promising in person- but still...some things just...don't connect. Some people here noted exterior-wise it's almost clumped together with styling cues from other cars- sadly, I'll throw in my two cents in the same pot- first thing I see on the front-end is Honda Accord, then somehow mutates into a Volkswagen Passat towards the back.

And this is just my opinion- but I didn't see any other cars resembling the 2000-2005 Impala on the road, not even today. Whether you liked the look or hated it, it was indeed different.

Personal taste is trivial, because everyone sees things differently- but everyone's gonna start noticing when one thing starts looking just like the other. Admittedly, the interior is miles ahead of the old "smashed ass" lol- interior of the previous Impalas- but still doesn't really look right- that chrome line running across the steering wheel...I understand the retro intention there, though it looks kinda silly.

And not to open the ol' RWD vs AWD vs FWD vs Side Wheel Drive Impala thing again- but forget about a performance-oriented Impala- in fact, kudos to that V6 making a healthy 300 hp (which, I imagine will stay like that for everyone's sake-- only in its FWD platform of course) And 300 hp this fwd gazelle is all it needs.

But again, trivial- the new Impala could of, in theory, adopted the AWD from the ATS (same underpinnings) and possibly put a TT V6 (or V8) as a performance option, but clearly that wasn't GM's intentions. An SS "Impala" will be called just that- the Chevy SS- an Aussie Commodore with a bowtie on-

Clearly you're blind, as the 00-05s like the the R34. Geek Out LOL I can see the Accord similarity in the front I guess. I won't be buying one when it comes out because I'm a bum.

LoL...oops Razz

And yes, having just finished school and working as an intern, I figure I could afford an SS (or even a base 2014 Impala) in oh, I dunno...300 years, tops.

I want one, but from everything I've been reading and hearing...its going to be a damn expensive car. corvette prices...which means I'll go find a g8 gt or gxp with 20k on the clock for 20g lol

Hadn't seen what the rear looks like. Interested in seeing the production street version, hope it doesn't look like complete ass lol.

They'll be stupid if they do in fact price it that much. Obviously engine options will matter too for pricing, but if it's really out of line from Charger pricing they're going to have trouble moving these. I heard some rumblings of them testing some with an LSA, that would obviously be costly, but hopefully just a high end version. Granted they need to be careful of getting too close to CTS-V pricing as well. I'd be okay with an LS3 (or LT1 if it would end up getting the next gen engine by the time it actually comes out) and a 6 spd manual.

Exactly. I've red some contradicting things...stating that a base price will be around 33 starting and up from there.

I could see it getting up to 40,000, but I hope not. If its low 30's I'll be jumping on one..if its mid 30's I'll probably wait for a deal 1-2 years later and see where they are at.

If they price it too high, they won't sell (IMO) get up over 50 and you'll be competing it with the camaro zl1, cts-v, corvette, etc.

That doesn't really mean much. The production version will actually be curvaceous compared too this.
