Whats another additional 77hp compared to 303 hp the LS4 produces or the 3.6-liter V6 the 2014 LTZ model is estimated to have? And when talking FWD sedans how much horsepower is too much?

I had an LS4 SS. It wasnt a gratifying car to drive in a spritited manner. There is no need for 380hp in a FWD car. Theres a reason FWD cars dont come from the factory with 400 hp and you dont see much more hp than the low 300hp you see in these sedans. Also have to consider the NA V6 is down on torque whereas a turbo version would have a torque figure probably closer to the hp number.

If they actually end up making a high HP version and it doesnt have AWD its a giant fail. Its bad enough they castrated the Regal GS by not offering it with AWD. Not sure who would pick a 380hp FWD Impala when you only need to sacrifice 15hp to get a AWD Taurus SHO. And obviously at that price you could go with a 370hp Charger RT.

Wow, Sad Chevy still can't keep up with the competition are years behind everyone. Why didn't we get rid of Chevy and just keep Pontiac?

Yeah they haven't made a 400 horse FWD car in years. Todays market could give a s**t less. Laughing

^^^^ Agree. Hence my recent purchase of a 2010 MKS Ecoboost (355 HP AWD). GM needs to get this right......

... That isn't 'really' a HEMI.

I love the mid section of the car (sculpted sides and roofline), but... the front has the new generic grille design also seen on the Traverse, which is way too Honda like for my likes. There are no fog lights, just those ugly LED strips everyone else has. At least the Traverse will have both. Also, the rear looks like a Passat with a little Sonata thrown in. The interior has some good and some bad... Mostly BOO to Chevy/GM for not having the bench seat/column shift option carry over. I hate push button start and touch screen radios (more things to go wrong), no word on the flip and fold seat which kick major butt over a regular fold down seat. The fuel door on the passenger side is the worst idea ever, glad some of you noticed and dislike it also. Seems most people don't realize these little design flaws until I bring it up, and then they realize how awful it is.

Also, WTF is up with the four-banger only getting one mpg more than a 2012 V6, with about 110 LESS horsepower to boot! The mpg of the V6 went down 2 mpg to 28 in the redesign too, must be a heavy pig.

I have a 2006, purchased new. So far, its been a very good ride. Other than regular maintenance and a stuck rear door that I managed to fix myself, no problems (knocking *heavily* on my oak table Wink.

I figured that I would likely replace the 06 in 2014. I like a bigger sedan and I have been debating another Impala, Charger R/T or possibly a Cadillac CTS. However, the 2014 Impala is very intriguing. Very comfortable looking interior. Exterior looks rather Buickish. It would have to be the LTZ model as I really don't see a 4 cylinder engine lasting very long hauling around a full sized sedan.

Dont bash the car until you see it in person or at least test drive it.

You bought an Impala once and you're going to buy ANOTHER one?

I own two Impalas, an '06 LT3 and a '12 LT. My '06 is a great car! Good power, comfortable, reliable and nice to look at! My '12 has more HP, better transmission and some smaller updates. Of course I bought "another Impala". Why not? I really don't know why so many on this site are so negative about our cars. This is suppose to be a site for Impala enthusiasts. I can understand why some feel obligated to post a negative post about a ligitimate problem from time ot time, but there are some who consistantly post negative remarks. If you don't like Impalas that much, why not join a forum for Toyotas, Hondas or what ever rings you bells? Or is it just that some like to complain about anything and everything? Rolling Eyes

I have a 2011 LTZ, all options, bought 4/15/11 as a dealer demo with 2,000 miles on the clock. Paid $24,000 with all rebates / discounts applied. Great car for the $$. Also bought the top GM extended warranty for it, 5 years / 100,000 miles with zero deductible. So far, just one warranty repair for fixing rear exterior door handle that came off the car in my hands. Just bought new tires for it at 22,700 miles and regular scheduled service schedules. Wish it had the 2012 engine but it goes okay. Great traveling salesman car for me.

I have 2 Impalas currently and have had another previously, plus I owned a Regal GS which is also a W-Body.. Aside from the usual things (wheel bearings, control arm bushings, LIM gaskets etc..) I've had good luck, they have been incredibly easy and cheap to maintain. I've never been left stranded by a W-Body in 6 years of owning only w-bodies.

In fact, I recently bought my 02 LSS for $800, put $400 into it in parts, and I have a great reliable daily out of it, and that's at 265k miles. Compare that to my friend's '97 Audi A8, which he just put over 2k into the power steering system due to a slight whine of the PS pump.

As for how much power is too much for a FWD, I don't think any brand puts it down better with a FWD setup than Mazda does with the Mazdaspeed 3 series. Either C&D or Motor Trend noted that it does very well and outhandles cars putting less to the front wheels.

Granted, they also noted that as the suspension aged, there was a notable difference in the car's traction capabilities. I believe at that time the 3's put down around 300 horse, so that's my answer. But I doubt the Wbody puts it down like the 3's do.

There was a Mazdaspeed 3 at the autocross I competed in.. I loved watching so much smoke billow out of the inside front tire when he came out of the corners.. It looked like it handled very well though.. And yeah, a mazda 3 will outhandle a w-body..
