I'm having issues with my impala. I replaced one of the door speakers two days ago and then went to start it to hear it and nothing. Checked the voltage on the battery and it was kinda low. I jumped it with my other car and it started instantly, didn't even have to let it charge. After a little bit it wouldnt start again so I replaced the battery. It started just fine after that. sat over night and started just fine again. Got in it this morning and wouldnt start. I know it's not the battery now. Something weird is happening. The accessory and run positions everything works, no dim lights or anything. Then when I try to turn it over, it doesn't even try and all electricals turn off and won't come back on till I unhook the battery and connect it again. Prior to this I've had no security lights while driving or any passlock issues. What could this be?! It's driving me crazy

Do you happen to know where the grounds are located?

There is a ground under the battery, on the transmission casing by the starter, a ground under the ICM (3.8L only), a ground under the air box, and a ground behind the driver headlight

Those are where I know of a few on my 2002 3.8

also if you don't hear the starter relay try to click over then it might be a ground at the starter as well since there is a relay control to make the solenoid engauge before the power wire sends current to start it up... gonna find some ground location photos for you here i'll reedit the post once they have been uploaded...

it more sounds like a parasitic drain if your car works fine after you start it then doesn't the next day

Thanks Billy and Wingman! Those pics would be great. What noise is the relay supposed to make? Do you mean does it not turn over, but click once?

there are 2 noises the starter makes... one engauges the starter gear to move onto the flywheel to make it spin... the 2nd noise is a gear spinning sounds like a whining noise which is the gear engauging the flywheel to turn the engine over... those pics will be coming tomorrow just finished a header install that started around 6-7 i can't remember lol i'll post tmrw when i get up

I wasn't hearing any noise so I took a multimeter to the starter. There was nothin. Traced that back to the battery and while the terminal showed there was power, the harness didn't. So I found out it was the battery terminal. It looked like it had been shorting on it like the terminal was too small or something and didn't always have contact. There was a black ring all around the bolt. But ow it's fixed! Thanks for all your help
