So my Imp's been making a really loud noise that seems to be coming from the wheel.

The noise is sort of like a squeak or a whistle at low speeds and when I'm going faster it's more of a loud squeak but sounds like metal rubbing metal but only for a split second for each rotation of the wheel.

The noise can be heard whenever I'm driving regardless of whether or not I'm braking. Also, the noise seems to become much quieter and is barely noticeable when I turn right but usually becomes louder when I turn left.

I've been searching all over forums and googling tons of stuff and I'm just confused now.

It doesn't sound like a heavy grinding sound that most people are associating with a wheel bearing. After all my searching I'm thinking it could be a rock lodged in between the rotor and pad (but the noise happens when i brake), a sticking brake, or possibly CV joint related.

I'm not a genius when it comes to cars so I'd love any feedback. Another forum directed me to the wheel bearing but i'm just unconvinced because the sound doesnt match the descriptions of bad wheel bearings noises ive been reading about.

Do you have your stock wheels and stock size tires? I had something similar happen when I went with 235/50R18's and got a pebble stuck in my tire and it was rubbing against the strut plate.

No I actually have a set of OEM Pontiac rims (16" by 6.5") off a early 2000s Grand Am.

Tire size? It could potentially be the brake dust shield rubbing against the rotor.

Check your axles, do you see grease being slung?

Could still be a bearing.

Could even be your brakes.

Have you taken this apart yet?

Thats a good sign of a bearing, BUT it could still also be brakes, or axle..you won't know till you take a look like chibiblacksheep said

Yeah I'm planning on taking a look at everything in a few days. Schools kicking my ass right now so I don't have much free time.

When I changed my tires the other week, I didn't see anything too unusual about the brakes but then again I didn't really know what I was looking for.

I'll look out for everything you guys said (except the bearings because that'll be a bitch to get off with no power tools)
