I get a loud pop from what sounds like lower front of the car when accelerating slowly. Been going on for a while but I had one today that was pretty loud.

Any ideas on things I should check?

Cradle bolts are a likely suspect followed closely by bad lower engine/trans mounts.

Thanks, I tried retightening the cradle bolts a long time ago and it didnt help.

The bad part is, its so random that I cant ever recreate it on my own!

Did you tighten them with a torque wrench? The cradle bolts take a hell of a lot of torque, you'd never manage an accurate torquing doing it without the torque wrench.

I'd also suggest checking the upper mounts and dogbones to make sure the rubber isn't dried out and leaving room for the engine to bang around.

You could check the swaybar endlinks...they are frequently ignored. I passed a Blazer today that had both ends of the front sway bar clearly hanging down below the vehicle (that is, not connected to the car at either end)

Of course, Iffy is on the right track, too. Something is loose, check the big components first!

I used to have this as well... but it went away. I think mine was related to my cv boot - which has been replaced.

Did you have the cradle resting on jack stands when you tightened it?

I re torqued the cradle in 06' using a torque wrench. I think it was 120 ft/lbs, but it didnt solve the issue. No, wasnt on jacks at that time.

I did a search and read a lot of possibilities, but no fixes.

I already did the iss fix when I first got the car in 06.

Today was the loudest "pop" Ive heard yet. Almost scared me. Makes me think my car is ready to "pop" apart. Much like my 94 Buick Regal did, when I lost a tie-rod making a simple 5 mph left turn. It just fell off. Pulled the CV out of the tranny, and I say there dead.

The night before this happened to my Regal, I remember hearing strange "pop" noises similar to those in my Impala.

I need to address this cradle issue as well. It's been popping since I got it 4 years ago.

rc10 I hope you don't have nothing like that happen too you again. Shocked

You need the car to be on jack stands with the cradle supported to get an accurate torque reading. For s**t and giggles I messed around with mine when I was tightening mine and they checked out with the car on the ground, but when on the stands I was about 35 ft-lbs short of the spec. After you rule out the tie rods or axles as being a problem (which I would check immediately if you suspect that to be the case), put the car on stands and tigthen the bolts again. I bet they are loose.

I will try the bolts again but on jacks.

it SEEMS like it be coming from the suspension, but going over speed bumps never makes the sound, only accelerating on flat ground..
