Okay y'all. I just got done replacing my coolant elbows like 500ish miles ago and today I pulled into my neighborhood and the lower intake manifold elbow came out! Literally popped out, landed on the battery wires and all my coolant came flowing out..made it to my house but I need to figure out why it keeps coming out. I have my mom picking up new coolant elbows but I need to figure this out. It seems to be pushed out from the lower intake manifold side and then starts bending and then eventually just pops out all together. This has me stumped and I need to figure this out!!

A video will be added soon but feel free to add any ideas in the meantime

I've never had that problem Laughing

What should I use when putting the coolant elbows in? I used white lithium grease....is that my problem? The last set lasted 24k miles before they started falling out.

Don't they have revised coolant elbows now? I replaced them with Dorman elbows 500 miles ago...

For one, get GM elbows, not Dorman. Time and time again people here are having problems with the cheap elbows.

And two, do not lube them. Just moisten the seals with coolant. Thats it.

I used dorman, and a little bit of vasoline on the ends...white lithium grease might be too much

Can I only get the GM elbows from a dealership? Will they have them in stock or will they have to be ordered?

They should have the elbows in stock. Also, are you certain you removed all of the old coolant elbow before you installed the new ones? I had like a quarter of an inch of the old one wedged in there that I had to remove with an o-ring scribe.

I'm not certain, but this time around I will double..triple check it. I'm going to have my mom stop at the local GM dealership and see if she can get them.

So, just put some coolant on the elbows and slide them in and I should be good?

EDIT: Just called the dealership up the road from me, they have them in stock $13.88 for one and $4.16 for the other one. Going to have my mom get them on her way home.

Yup, just some coolant should be enough.

They are a little higher than GM suggested retail, but not too bad. If you feel like argueing, they should be $3.83 and $12.48. You could ask them why they sell parts over GM retail. Laughing

Never greased mine, just coolant on the rings and put them in. They went alright, but you'll probably have to put in a little more effort than when you installed them with lithium grease.

It's all fixed. Drove 45 miles tonight to dinner and it's doing good. I'll keep and eye on it, but I could tell the difference in the plastics between the Dorman elbows and the GM elbows..

Thanks y'all!!
