Ive been having wifi issues at my house and I think its the router crapping out. I also have a range issue with my shop computer, its a long way from the router and in a detatched garage.

so I bought a powerline networking adapter set from Netgear. Its the AV+ 200 Ultra Adapter kit. Got it on Newegg for under $100 shipped.

I must say, less than 2 min to install the hardware and just had to enable the NIC on the computer. It works great!!!!! Speeds are way up from my wifi connection which was "poor" at best and now Im getting 4.59mbps download and 2.2mbps upload!!! Before I was around 400kbps on wifi

Does your router support DD-WRT?

Flashing that to my router and increases the power output helped solve a lot of my problems.

it should, but I can get a new one for under $50 that does. The wifi dropping wasnt a bother as much as the range issue. I plan on redoing the entire setup eventually, its only "G" and was installed right after it came out. So its fairly old.

If you can, do the DD-WRT flash. It opens up a lot of options to get that router working.

You can also use a second router with DD-WRT to act as a hub, so if you want to put wired things in another room the 2nd router can pull the data from the first and channel to 4 devices.

That's how I have my video game systems hooked up in my living room, while the router is in my bedroom (since my 360 didn't have wi-fi and I wasn't paying all that money for the xbox wifi adapter)

Very nice! How does that compared to being wired?

dont know, dont have anything wired direct to the router. The modem and router are located in the northwest corner of my living room to get it closest to my shop as possible so the wifi could make it. My house is very long and narrow, so the front bedrooms dont get any wifi signal, but all my computers are in the rear of the house or on the 2nd floor above the living room.
