I got the ELM327 scanner on amazon for about $20. I got it to work and pulled the data from my car. I have a P0420 code (which I already knew), but some of this info is concerning me. Like thedata on the upstream 02 sensor...I believe that is a misfire. Anyway here's all the data I could gather. if you have diagnostic expertise I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

A P0420 = Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold code. Meaning either your cat is plugged, or your O2 sensor is bad. If your cat is plugged, it could also account for the car running lean and also account for the misfire. I would get that sorted out before you worry about anything else.

in a round about way i'm kinda guessing a misfire is possible and I thought maybe some of that other data could help... not to mention mostly I wanna see if anybody can tell me somethings about my engine bc I think the scanner program is cool......if I got a misfire and im putting good gas through the cat im not gonna replace the cat and have it burn out again.... Weird though its running better since scanning the pcm yesterday...maybe im hallucinating but I swear it feels better.... for your input.

A misfire would be a flashing CEL.

I bought this one from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....00_details
I bought the "usb" instead of the "bluetooth" because I figured one less thing to go wrong. The disk they shipped it with was broken, but there is a web site here->(http://interfusecorp.com/2011/07/elm327-obd-ii-software-guide/) which has 30 or so odb2 programs for free download (I think alot of people develop them on their own.. I am using "easy obd2". The program is only about 2mb on my computer...very small software package which is good. I had some trouble getting it to connect due to something with my usb port or usb driver. I followed some of the directions on that site where all the software and it started working. Any other questions? Here's a pic of the scanner and the software on my computer (not plugged into the car right now, but just to show you how its set up.. Any other questions? I only have used it once so far and it seems cool, only problem is getting it to work I guess.
