possibly buying this for a project car. its a 1968 chevy impala 4dr they bought it for parts for their 68 impala 2dr coupe theyll strip the motor (not original) and trans, interior and suspension all things i would replace anyway. question is whats a fair price for a body and frame in decent shape? im hoping to pay around $500 they havent given me a price yet but similar 68 sedans in mint condition are selling for about $7,000

My dad bought one of them new. Always liked the look of the front end,it handled like a boat though.$500 seems good to me if the body is in fair shape......... PS I told him to get the 427SS but he went with the 307, no guts at all.

I wouldnt go over $500, those really have no value even fully restored, so Id stay as low as possible.

Also, only buy it if you want it for a project. It is in no way an investment. I can easily see way more than $7K going into the car even if you do all the work yourself.

As pitch said, if your looking to gain from buying this car then selling it, i would not buy this. From experience, one thing after another will go wrong and with parts being scare for any old car, those parts are pricy.

Would be cool to fix up though!

also, do some research on parts availability before buying. When I restored my 64 Impala SS, parts were impossible to find. Cost a pretty penny to have things like door skins and a trunk lid fabricated.

Hubbards, Luttys, Late Great Chevys, these are the places I dealt with, not sure if they still exist.

Is this car rust free from a southern state? If the car has any rust, especially in the frame, I'd pass if my intent was to make it a driver. I've owned everything from '65 to '70. The first thing I always did was to fully inspect the frame. If it has soft spots, run don't walk away!

I got burned really bad on a beautiful '67 Impal Marina Blue sedan. Very minor body rust, had two new front fenders. It was love at first site. I bought it and when I went under the car to change oil and check out the suspension, I got sick! There were two large holes rusted in the front frame behind the wheels. When I poked on the rear of the frame at the lower suspension points, I drove the screwdrive clear through. It cost me over $1500 to have it repaired back in 1989! After that episode, the frame was the first thing I checked before buying any more '65 through '70's.
