Is there a site, like Dell, where I can order a custom computer to my specs? Most places only offer select options for each category. Im looking for 100% custom.

I'll even take a built machine without an operating system. I have and need XP for my vinyl cutter.

The system I have now finally died and Im not sure if I want to drop in a new hard drive and reinstall the OS on a system that was built 8 years ago.

Only way you're going to get 100% custom is DIY or find a boutique shop who is willing to order whatever you want. Ultimately you'll pay a premium for that, the "custom" will only let you select from a set list of options.

If you have specific requirements for the case or board or memory brand, etc... not going to be easy to find on a mainstream custom builder. And most of them focus on performance machines, not budget builds that only need to handle XP.

What are your firm requirements anyway? Is it port or slot related? Or specific hardware?

still have it, thats how I make the stuff for the shop. Phasing out products and eventually will get rid of it or keep a very select amount of colors.

all basic stuff, but places like Dell dont offer XP or multiple vid cards without charging a crazy price ($400 for a second card)

its all 2D graphics, so doesnt have to be crazy fast. I run 3 monitors, so need multiple vid cards. Has to run XP As many USB as it can fit since I run 3 printers on this computer. Basically its peripheral heavy. Storage isnt a big deal, I can add hard drives, optical drives, etc. Ive done memory upgrades and even added the second vid card myself.

Its more or less the fact of buying the parts that all work together and getting it together without problems. I know where everything goes, I can figure out the wiring. Just dont want to have $$$ tied up and cant get it to work. Then Im out the cash and no further along than I am now.

Honestly, http://www.tomshardware.com/ will probably help you out a ton.

If you post up what kind of computer you want to build, I guarantee people will be very helpful with budget in mind.

I used that forum 4-5 years ago when I last built my full comp

why don't you order a barebones kit that is partially put together from tigerdirect and order extra video cards. You can usually choose to have everything preinstalled, then plug in your own windows xp and they offer tech support. You can also order a pci slot usb card to add extra usbs.

I was going to say Tiger Direct as well. Don't know if it'll fit what your looking to do but its been my place for electronics for awhile now.

My son buys allot from ncix.com and newegg.com. He tells me you can talk to them and they pretty much tell you what you need.

Tiger Direct became Compusa. I used them for my current build. A build i put together for a friend i used Newegg to purchase everything and made a strong gaming computer for around $1500.

Hey Pitch Black SS.
If you have a list or good idea of what you want, I have a cousin who is a true computer whiz. I could run it by him and see what he says about building you one. We are in the Albany NY area. Let me know. Cool

Is building (putting parts together yourself) out of the option? You don't need 2 video cards, some AMD cards support 3 monitors. With a budget & usage info I could make out a parts list for you.

There are other sites that let you choose more options.. the linked Cyberpower.. Origin, ibuypower, xotic, and i can find more trustworthy sites if you'd like. Honestly if you can work on a car you won't have a problem building a computer... it's like legos.

That excuse is false! I used a dremel on a video card's case to properly fit it in a build. No damage to video card and now the computer i use is a super computer. With some games running im only using 5% of total CPU.
