Hey all. Here's what's up. My car is not shifting at the correct rpm. It is going about 2k- 3k rpms higher than correct down shifts. So basicaly, 2nd to 3rd should happen in the 3k range and at 30 mph (or somewhere there abouts), but if I throttle down it will rev to 5-6k. Its hard to explain.... basicaly its like if you rev the engine at idle in park...except its happening while moving. If you need me to explain better let me know what doesn't make sense. Also I will make a video today and post it tonight. I have a CEL and it's a P0420 (emissions). Thanks.

Like a flare during the shift? Is it every shift? A video would be easier to see what's going on so try and get that for us.

It revs with no torque as soon as you pass the correct shift point.Like its supposed to shift but then it just revs empty up into 5-6k rpms then when it gets more speed it will down shift. I wil post a vid tonight.

P0420 is because of your Cat.

Those symptoms sound like a failing cat.

Sounds like you already know the problem Wink

I'm gonna have to agree. When my cat was plugged up, I could mash on the gas all day and it would rev it's nuts off until it was finally able to break through the blockage then it would downshift.

When my cat went, it wouldn't shift like that. But if I took my foot off the gas, and then put it back on, it would finally shift haha

Definitely sounds like your cat. If you were "opening er up" and accelerating that slow, your cat is definitely plugged up.

Did you replace it with an OEM cat?

Yes, I had the dealer replace it at 81K. Even after new intake gaskets, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, fpr, cleaned maf, pcv, iac, tps mileage isn't where it was when it was new. Opposite of what I would expect because of the mileage. However, I think that my problem is a bad torque converter at this point. And I think I will start a new thread later on so I don't hi jack this one.
