Hey all, have been trying to find some black 04+ tails but couldn't find any for cheap. So I took it to myself to pickup a can of Rust-oleum lens tint from Autozone for $12.99. I have a little bit over a half a can left and I did two coats. Seems to have come out good! This is just after spraying it so I still have to wetsand it and then polish it. I think it will come out good!

Here are some pics

I was wondering if it was the norm to leave that lettering on. It looks good anyway, though!

I agree, this was something I thought about late last night and I just picked the stuff up and did it today. All I did was scuff the tails with Scotchbrite and washed and dried them and then applied the Rust-oleum lens tint. In about an hour I'm going to wet sand them down to get rid of the orange peel and then polish them to hopefully a mirror shine.

Thanks for the compliments though!

You should clear coat it and then polish the clear coat its hard to polish tint and keep the coat even.

What would you recommend for clear coat?

I just used a basic clear enamel rattle can from the parts store. as long as you use an enamel and not a laqcuer you will be fine. Before you do that though you should tape off the light holes and paint the rest of the panels navy blue. then take off the tape before you clear coat it. if you do a couple coats of clear and wetsand and buff, it should look pretty good.

its not legal to remove it, but not legal to tint them anyway. I would have sanded it down myself. Most shops that tint them do it also.

Thanks! I have them sitting on the dining room table overnight so that I can make sure they cure correctly. I did 4-6 light coats of clear on everything, followed by one last thick coat on everything which gave it a semi-glossy finish. I'm gonna put them on the car in the morning before school and then tomorrow afternoon/night I will probably take them off again and sand them with 2000 grit wet sandpaper and then polish them to hopefully a mirror shine. pics will follow tomorrow!

Thanks man. Check out the pics I just put in my thread in "C'mon Down!".

I ended up not using that rustoleum stuff. It worked well, but when I went to clear coat it, it didn't seem to like that and ended up bubbling up and looking like complete ass. I went out and used one can of VHT & one can of Krylon Clear Coat, and a package of 2000 grit wetordry sand paper. did 3 rather heavy coats of VHT in 5 minute intervals, and after the 3rd coat of VHT waited 10 minutes and then like 5 light coats of clear on each, 1 minute between each of those coats, and then 30 minutes later did a THICK coat on everything which gave it a semi-glossy look. Left them in the house overnight and put them on my car this morning (7:15am) before I had to go to school. Got home from school, took them off the car, wetsanded them followed by Meguiars Ultimate Compound and you'll see the pics in "c'mon down".
