I just noticed I ordered a steering wheel retention as well as a chime retention, Do i still need to order something else so I don't hack up the stock wires, so I can run my own wires?? Everything would be easier with pictures... BTW any reccommendations on speaker wire brand?

The chime retention harness prevents you from hacking up any of the stock wires. If you want to run your own speaker wires, don't connect the head unit to the chime retention harness and connect your new wires directly to the stock head unit.

If you need pictures to connect a few harnesses and solder a few wires you should really pay someone to do the job for you.

Speaker wire is speaker wire for the most part. I've used Rockford Fosgate and whatever Best Buy is selling in their audio department these days (Rocketfish?) with great success.

I've have installed many of hu in my cars, none of them had a stock amp system. that's what throws me off.. I guess it might be more explanatory when I have 1/2 the crap hooked up..

So you are looking for a how to on bypassing the factory amp? If so, I can't help you with that but if that's the case someone else does. I tried searching for something, but all I got was the stuff in the Impala HQ, but I"m not sure if that works for every model year Impala.

this is the way to go. That way when/if you want to sell the car, you dont have spliced factory wiring if you remove all your audio equipment.

Sounds good, I just thought for some reason I needed another wiring harness.. to be able to do that.. but I guess that's what all the wires are for on the chime retention harness... Thanks..

Yeah you would run your Power, Ground and Acc wire from the HU to the car.

Then run wires directly from the speakers to the HU wiring harness (not factory one- thus avoiding making a mess).

Thats how to do it with the headunit..now, are you using an amp to power the speakers (I cant remember if you were or not).

I know you have the one amp and sub to hook up you wire that like you normally would

To be clear, you should be wiring directly to the wires coming off the head unit and not the ones on the chime retention harness. You only do that if you want to utilize the factory speaker wiring.
