I need to vent. My Impala (03) with 141k, is in the shop and needs the following.

LIM
Head gasket
Water pump

I hope the head is not cracked!!

I know every car has issues but this is crazy.

Its going to cost half the value of the car just to get it fixed.

This maybe the last GM car I every buy!!

Im With Stupid At 105k within a 500 mile drive, the LIM let go, a trans cooler line ruptured, a power steering line ruptured, the thermostat stuck open and when I got it to a shop they found the UIM had melted.

That was my cue to invest is a set of factory service manuals and learn how to fix my car myself. If you are mechanically inclined, I'd recommend you do the same and it makes repairs far less of a financial burden.

I guess, just sucks though.

Have a 98 lumina with 231k on it and haven't had that many issues with it.

Didn't a couple of us offer to help you change your LIM when you first posted about this? And for nothing but drinks?

Like IffyG said, you can fix just about everything yourself that commonly fails on these cars, and we'll be glad to help out.

Agreed though, it is annoying sometimes.

What shop did you take it to?

is it a 3800 or 3400, usually the lim goes on both engines, but on the 3800's the head gasket is fine. On the 03+ they did a redesign on the head gaskets, so I would be hesitant to think it would be both the lim and the head gaskets.

That was a hell of a nice offer!!

Turns out it's the head gaskets too. Both sides blew. The heads are on there way to the machine shop.

I also have a leaking water pump, the spark plugs and wires are original and I need a new serpetine belt.

Lucky for me, I have a cousin that's a retired mechanic and he's doing me a HUGE favor!!

How much should I offer him for his labor?

I'm hoping after all his the car will run well and be reliable. I also just put a new catalytic convertor on it a couple of weeks ago.

I let you know how it all turns out. Maybe I'll be able to get the 30mpg on the highway that I've always hoped for.

lol.....i suprised the lim lasted that long. i take it the water pump went out which caused it to overheat.....my water pump went out, but that was like 100k ago. im at 155k on my 01 3400. i had the lim replaced on mine at about 90k.
