I have a question for you guys in the know.

I have a '02 with a 3.8 that has a small colant leak. I have found a small pool of antifreeze on top of the engine, between the front valve cover and the intake manifold.

The location is in close proximity to a valve cover bolt and to motor mount braket bolts. At the moment I believe that the coolant is coming through the threaded holes for those bolts.

Does anybody know if any of these bolt holes break through to into a coolant passage, or are they all blind holes?

They don't go into any coolant passages. I have one of mine missing because
I could not tread it back in when I did my manifold gaskets. Nothing leaks out of the hole.

It is possible for the t-stat gasket to leak and pool in the area described. It is also possible for the upper intake gasket to leak and pool, the egr tube can melt the upper and case it to leak. If it does end up being the upper, be sure to spend the time to do the lower intake.

Had the same problem on my old '02. New upper intake gasket did the trick. Keep a lookout for Class Action Lawsuits on this one. I got reimbursed if I'm not mistaken. Cool
