2008 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 5:52 pm    Post subject:  1/64 Impala Reply with quote

I was walking through Walmart last night and decided to walk down the toy isle and see if I could find any Impala's. Well, I was in luck and found that Jada Toys makes a police line of 2010 Impala's.
I purchased one with the idea or removing the police package, sanding it down, and paiting it black and making it look like my '08.
Ill need to fab a spoiler, but that wont be hard.
So what do yall think? Anyone else interested in having one copied after their car?

Looks like they are using Dodge Charger police wheels on that model car.

Those rims are very close to mine. I might have to pick one up and do the same thing. Will be good to paint it the way I want mine done and see if it looks good. Good find. Now I have to see if I can make it through Wal-hell without killing anyone.

Well, I have alot of spare time at work and ive never done anything like this with a toy car, but im giving it a shot. Ill take it apart, sand it down, and re-paint it like my '08.
This is what ive done so far.

Took the main body apart:

Removed the light bar and grill components:

Removed the windows:

Removed and sanded the trunk lid:

Now to sand the doors and body and fill in the holes from the light bar.
Hopefully by tomorrow night I will have it painted and start to re-assemble.

Update:
Body sanded and ready for paint. I was sanding the doors and didnt notice the mirrors were plastic. I messed those up. Now I need to buy another one just for the doors. Sad

I always have my eyes out for an 8th gen model. All I have seen so far are Police models. I am really interested to see how this turns out. Keep us posted.

Must say at first I thought this wasn't going to be an interesting post, but it looks like you're doing something pretty sweet! Now I want to see if I can find a 7th Gen Police package to match my 9C1 Smile

Im not really good at what I am trying to do with this car, but im giving it a shot. I still have a few things to do with it before I paint it. I am still looking at ways to fill the holes in on the roof.. I also destroyed the mirrors. I thought they were metal. Turns out they were plastic. Now I need to buy a new one just for the doors lol. I will finish it later this week. Ill keep posting updates and pictures. I think someone else should give it a shot.

Bondo from the inside of the roof out. Then sand down the protruding Bondo from the holes until it is flush with the roof.

Either that or some metal set.

A product called "Plastic Wood" might work better. It dries hard but sands easy. That way you don't rip through the plastic trying to sand it all even. And I would work my way up to 600 grit or higher before painting. Keep the scratches to a minimal.
