Hi,

I have been on this site for some time now and have always found it to be a source of excellent information. I have posted from time to time but cannot call myself in all good conscience, a "contributor".

That being said, I need some information!

I am looking for a replacement engine for my 04 Impala, 3400. The number of available engines that are from Impalas do not seem to be in my favor.

This brings me to my question: Can I yank a 3.4 L LA1 V6 from any GM and expect it to be a direct fit?

Wire harnesses and engine mouth points.. etc...

If so, anyone have a list of what models and years?

So far I have found that the Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette, (I Think) Equinox , I think the Monte Carlo...

Again... I am just wondering if any of these can be considered a "Direct" fit.

This would widen my engine sources immensely if it were.

Craig

Monte Carlo for sure since they are both W-Body

Grand Am had a 3400 I believe, should be a good candidate also.

Not sure on the mini-vans, I know they had the 3400, but unsure of the swap potential. You should be able to use anything off your motor to make it work though

Thanks for the quick reply!

I forgot about the Monte because of the lions share being (I assume) 3.8s.

If anyone has any direct knowledge that Minivan/SUV 3400s would work, or not please let me know. I tend to agree with Pitch black, that is *should* work... but I just want to be sure.

GA did have a 3400, but different tranny than impala.
And I'd think the majority of MC's to be 3400 like the impala. The 3800 was the SS option for the MC at one point.. it didn't get l67 till later.

Thanks for the replies guys! Looks like the shop I brought mine to finally found one. They say it has 120 000Kms on it...

Not certain what I need to do after the replacement... if anything at all.

Should I add an oil treatment to it or something?

Anything I need to watch out for?

I know for a fact if you use a 3800 from another platform in the W-body you end up needing to transfer a bunch of brackets and other odds and ends to get it in there. I'd imagine you'd be in the same boat doing a cross platform LA1 swap.
