this weekend i am going to the local you pull and pay in the cincinnati area. I was wondering if anyone needed anything for their impala. On you pull and pays website they have 5 impalas (2001, 2002, 2003, and two 2005 all base versions) and 0 W-body monte carlos. They normally have several more of each car they just dont list them. Price would be whatever it is for me to buy it and ship. If you want me to keep a look out for anything just post up!

Understand i will not know the working condition of any part that i ship out. I will not refund any item once i ship it out due to it being in a non working condition. I will pick out the parts that seem to be in the best shape and the best quality out of these cars.

Headlights. I need the pass. side more than anything. Needs to be in good cond. with no cracks. Small rock chips,o.k. Lite scratches,o.k. Just no cracks. Don't spend more than $30 a piece and get both sides if you can.

You're generally not going to get mint parts, but they're typically a heck of a lot cheaper than the dealer, too.

It's fun to poke around - but not all yards let you just wander in. Some will pull the parts on your behalf, and some will send a guy in with you (I guess so you don't pocket anything?).

Watch our for bees/snakes/rodents who are holed up in the (basically) abandoned cars.

Don't get your hopes up too high. With the ones around here, if you don't get to the car within a day or two of it being put on the yard there isn't much left but some trim pieces and the unibody.

Meh... hopefully they'll let me roam free. I knew they wouldn't be all too quality, what with sitting in the dirt w/ no care in the world.

Haha, I think they're more concerned about unique fasteners or pricey bolts: small items you can pocket and walk out with. I broke a bolt in my LIM that was 13 bucks at the dealer, and even the scrapyard wanted 9 bucks - this is the sort of thing you could leave with a dozen in your pocket and they'd never know.

Thankfully there is a decent selection of yards within an hour's drive of my place. Some will let you wander, some won't.

Is there a real name for these places or are they just called "pull and pay"? I mean, other than a junk yard. It sounds more like they keep cars for a year or so, let people pick at them, then sell them to the junk yard.

the cincinnati you pull and pay is actually very nice. an entrance fee of 2 dollars. on busy nights at closing time, if you dont have a large item, they tell you "that ones on me, you're free to go." I got out with 4 impala emblems which they charge around 5 a piece i believe. Its also rather clean except for the mangled car parts all over Laughing

I only know of two within my driving distance... and they're damn near next door. Mad

They're called you pull its, as far as I'm aware. Just a junk yard that you grab the part and pay instead of waiting for one of them to do it. They may name the company though.. if that's what you mean. "Pic-A-Part" and "Pull-A-Part" are the clever names the two in Indy came up with.

I love going to the junkyard. Sometimes you never know what you'll find.

Its interesting how unique each junkyard is. Some seem to keep cars forever and even long after they're stripped to the bone, they sit and sit. Others have a very high turnover rate and cars come in, get picked over, and then get crushed in a matter of a week or two. Its worthwhile to go often especially if you're looking for anything specific.
