Hi all, my 2002 Impala LS 3.8 with 180k miles on the body and suspension has CV axles throwing grease on both sides...started ever since the trans shop pulled them out to pull the transmission out. I'm guessing they're just old at 180k miles idk if they've ever been replaced either. I had the car up on the lift fixing speed sensor harnesses last night and when I turned the steering wheel I hear clicking sounds coming from the front. Is that the CV Axles? I also have a video of my axles moving in a not so circular motion...the shaft parts coming from both boots move up and down a lot. I can get that video uploaded if necessary.

Do these need to be replaced? They're throwing grease pretty good.

Throwing grease = bad axles, it's time to replace them.

Damn looks like the front end is getting an overhaul pretty soon then. I need an alignment bad before we mount and balance these new tires I just got (dropped $550 on tires). It needs new outer tie rods for sure, might as well do the inner tie rods while we're there...there is a creaking noise from the rear when you push the back down, possibly a bad bushing on the sway bar or something?? any idea on that?

Here are two videos I recorded, I stopped the first one short by accident. If anyone can see when I'm recording, look at the sway bar end link bushings, do they look shot to you? Should I replace them with these at this website?

Here are the videos..look at how much the driver side axle is moving..is that normal???

By the way, all the talking I'm doing in the videos about the traction control engaging when it should as well as the ABS when braking and having the wheel turned has gone away. I changed out the EBCM from my 2001 Impala LS and messed with all the harnesses and cleaned up the ground for the EBCM and it hasn't messed up at all in the last three days, even through this big rain we had. Now what I'm curious about is the sway bar end links and the CV axles. I know they need to be replaced but right now we're working on getting the car aligned and getting my new tires mounted and balanced so they'll wait for a little longer.

If you need other parts you can get them at Rock Auto for a fraction of the price. Moog K5342. I think they were like 3 bucks a piece when I bought mine.

Hmm, I see that now. Thanks! I'm looking to slightly upgrade what I can when things are worn out and need replacing. Is the Moog kit on Rockauto an improvement over these that are on there now?

What about the MEVOTECH kit? Says it's an improved design and they're poly bushings...

The Moog ones I posted are a poly bushing. Much stiffer than the stock bushings that are on there. I'd be inclined to think they are the same item being sold by the W-body store at three times the price.

Yeah they look pretty much identical. Thanks for that I'll probably order them tomorrow.

Any idea about those CV Axles spinning abnormally like that?

I've never actually watched mine spin while the car is in gear, but I can tell you there is plenty of wiggle room in the axle from when I was replacing it. I'd imagine a little bit of wobble is normal, but don't take my word for it.

I just ordered those same sway bar end links from Rockauto. When they came, one was black with blue bushings, and the other was gold with blue bushings. The pics in their catalog showed black, and I wanted black, so I called them. They sent me another one out free, but when I got it, it was gold also, even though they were supposed to check for correct color before sending it.
They all 3 had the same p/n, I guess one color might be old stock though. Just thought you might want to know.
