I have the 6 or 8 speaker system.. whatever the gimmick was. I've replaced my rears, but idr if I used the tweeter. If I buy 6*9s (the ones on sale in a thread nearby) is it simple plug and play to get both the speaker and tweeter hooked up?

If you are getting a new set of speakers, the factory speakers are completely removed from the car. My Monte Carlo had a '6 speaker' sound system that I replaced with 4 aftermarket speakers.

If I remember correctly, I think my front speakers had 2 sets of wire going to them, one for the tweeter the other for the mid. If thats the case then the crossover is happening within the stock amp, meaning you would have to wire the aftermarket speakers the same way. This would also mean the aftermarket speakers are limited to whichever crossover the amp uses, not really ideal IMO.

What's not ideal? I'm not worried about volume (will be losing some w/ 4ohms). I just want to get rid of my blown stockers until this summer when I'll be using whatever I buy now + new amp, hu, and subs.

Huh? I know I have to take out the old. I just wanted to know if it's pop out the old, put in the new, no special wiring.

You might want to get some wiring harnesses to make the job a bit easier.
