I was helping a friend change out his spark plugs and wires on his 2001 Silverado 2500. Everything went well with the exception of 1 plug.

Pulling it out raised my first red flag. It was hardly in at all. Went to put in the new spark plug and it was almost like it was stripped/cross threaded. It would go in, start to get tight, then go back to spinning easily. It wouldn't stay in, either. Anyways, we decided to put it in as tight as it would go without having it loose. He turned the engine on and it started right up. Let it run for about 30 seconds then turned it off. Everything seemed alright. Goes to leave my house and it sounds like a gun going off when he started it up. Turns out it shot the spark plug out of the engine.

Anyone got any ideas?

yup, a stripped plug hole. Has to be drilled and heli-coiled to repair correctly.
