Having problems with my car and need some help. I was having problem with my car turning over with the colder weather so I took off the alternator and took out the battery to have them tested. Alternator tested out OK and the battery tested bad. So I bought a new battery and reinstalled the new battery and the old alternator. I cleaned and reoiled my K&N air filter at the same time. Got up the next morning and took off to work and made it about 2 mile and the car died and would now restart. My 1st thought was oil from the filter screwed with the MAF sensor. So when I got home I pulled the MAF sensor and cleaned it with MAF sensor cleaner. The car started but wold not idle. I managed to keep it running long enough to get it home. Pulled the air filter and blew the excess oil out and cleaned the tube. Cleaned the sensor in the tube and cleaned the MAF sensor again and put everything back together. The car won't start at all now. When I turn it over it fires but will not run.
Please help....Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks Jared

Unplug the MAF sensor and give it and see if it will idle. It may take a few trys to get it to run.

It should run with the MAF sensor unplugged?

Yes, it will run without MAF input. It's an easy was of checking to see if the MAF is bad.

Makes the car run a different fueling table I believe, but don't just run around without it because running rich is not the best.

Unplugged the MAF sensor and it still won't run. Car fires and motor rolls over but died right after. The engine light is not on either. 98ss mentioned a possible stuck EGR. How do I check for that?
Thanks for the info

You scan the car for any codes? Can you get it to stay running if you give it gas?

I haven't had it on a scanner yet. I did try giving it some gas while starting and still no start.

Check for the most obvious things...are you getting fuel? Do you have spark? Do you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key to the ACC and ON positions?

A stuck egr sometimes won't let it idle, but with your foot on the gas it should be able to rev. The reason I thought it could be an egr stuck open is because you were able to get it to run with your foot on the gas on the way home.
