I'm at a loss for the MISSING piston....I didn't think KR would destroy 1 piston and leave the rest like new.

Sorry guys, I'm not going to part out, I will get a motor

The bore doesn't look that bad...you might be able to run a quick hone if the scratches are not deep, get a new pison/rod and size rings accordingly. Plus new valves at the machine shop are cheap. It may be less time consuming to pick up a boneyard motor.

Nothing noticeable for sounds before this happened, I was on the highway and put the hammer down (during a pass) I heard a big bang from the motor. I shut off the engine and coasted to a stop. My mods are 3" to 2.5 exhaust, headers, SS intercooler, ported throttle body, FWI, 3.2 pulley, 180* T-stat, colder plugs, I never did anything to the inside of the motor. I think that is everything....I can't remember right now if that is everything that I did....

Did you have a tune? What octane fuel were you using?

Definitely a KR issue, Especially if piston #4 is gone. You running stock injectors?

Headers and intercooler are good, but without having a CAM or rockers and not talking about doing your own tuning, I think the 3.2 pulley was too small.

Not sure if you're getting a motor from a junkyard or where you're locatedat but I've got a motor from a 3.8l impala needs a valve job on cylinder 6 80psi on cylinder 6. motor is partially apart, was running before we pulled it apart...$150 if youre willing to come get it

In a quick effort to learn, what is KR? And how would piston #4 matter? Just learning, if I may Smile

Cylinders 3 and 4 are the inside cylinders so heat doesn't dissipate as well as it does on the outside cylinders, so the pistons run hotter. Further more, cylinder 4 runs hotter than cylinder 3 because it doesn't get the added airflow that cylinder 3 experiences (from the air moving through the engine bay as you drive down the road).

Misfires in cylinder 3 or 4 on a supercharged car is bad news and is usually a sign of a piston that's ready to blow.

GM tries to correct this by skewing the injectors on those cylinders in an attempt to add more fuel to cool the pistons down. If the OP didn't have bigger injectors I believe that would be the cause of the issue as the stock injectors get questionable around the 3.2 pulley area.
