Hey, guys... For the handful of you in the TX state, I was wondering if you guys have heard anything about this little mess up that the state... Here is an article i found:

http://blog.beaumontenterprise.....-optional/

Google more if needed but the cliff notes are basically the legislature took out a sentence and didnt realize it that basically eliminates the ability for police to give you a ticket for not having a front license plate since currently you're suppose to have both front and rear plates on your car.. Im still a little confused by what they are saying about it, some places say that you wont need to have any plates on the car at all and some say you dont need to have the front one on the car....

BTW I stumbled apon this after getting pulled over on Tuesday for having a Euro plate on instead of a Texas plate... Long story short the cop pulled me over because he thought the car was registered in Europe...

My guess is since this was a legislative oversight, they are going to fix the wording and jam the revision through quickly to eliminate the loophole.

Ive always thought it was illegal to not have a front plate in Texas, but I've never once gotten fined for not having one. Ive been pulled over for this all over Texas . They usually let me go with a warning.

That wont work for me as I havent drilled the holes for the screws anyway.
I forgot where I put that stupid plate holder anyway. I keep the plate under the passenger floor mat just in case though.
Id just tell them I just had the bumper replaced and need to order the holder.

Lucky. In Nebraska, if I tried to pull that line they'd say "Fine, no problem. Here's a Fix-It Ticket. You get this fixed in the next week, come to the station so we can inspect it. Then we'll sign the ticket and you can mail it in to complete your legal obligation."

Officers in Texas can still cite or arrest for no front license plate. And to be honest, its been my 'bread and butter' for 20 years. I especially love the European type tags. However, as long as the Texas plate is up front where it supposed to be, feel free to display the fictitious European tag.

Where the last legislature screwed up is that they omitted the fine amount. However, it's still an offense and one still has to appear in court for their $0 fine. But like mentioned above, it will be remedied shortly if not already. Currently its simply a $20 fix-it ticket.

Current law....

Man, I am glad we dont have things like that up here - front plates and all. Sounds like an extra fund-raiser for the BMV, assuming you have to pay more for two. Plus i like the cleaner look of no plate up front

Here in NY we have to have a front and rear tag on our vehicles,(including trailers). Its never botherd me having to run a front plate really.

I could see how some may not like it,esp if they have a vehicle that a front plate would ruin the look. However the law is the law...
