Well I noticed there was starting to be a gap between the moulding on the headlight and the lense so one day I went and pulled on the lense....
And that got me interested in seeing if these things can actually come apart. I took the headlight off and started just prying the lense off with my hand from the inner side. Got down the the outside edge and I thought for sure I'd have to break it to get it apart. If I kept prying, the back side plastic housing was moving with it and it was either gonna break or the lense was gonna crack. I took a good look inside with a flashlight to see what was going on. I tried to cut as much of the sealing part as possible from behind the turn signal area, which didn't help too much. So I just pried it more and more and eventually the sealant gave and it came off.... no baking or cutting really The outer side slips in between two pieces kinda, so gotta pull it straight out too. Here's some pics!
Let's just say the ideas are swirling in my head. I've got big plans
2002 Impala- SSC, AGX, 18" charger R/t rims w/8mm spacers, Magnaflow cat, U-bend delete, flowmaster 80 series crossflow, z28 tips, HAI, debadged, 35% tint, smoked headlights, full sound system
The problem is that headlights in good condition won't open up like that. The lens and the inner bezel are sandwiched (with sealant) into the U-shaped channel on the back of the housing and when the the sealant is still good, it doesn't just pry open
Ride on...ya i always thought so just by looking at them, that would come apart...ive havnt seen anybody do it yet, not that it hasnt or cant be done..but i personally havnt seen a impala with the halos being other then the chrome or black housing.. i seen a pearl white escalade, he had after market halos, they were beautiful, and the backgrounds were painted pearl white too, ever sense then ive wanted to do it...just too see what the look will be.
