OK so not really an Impala but it was called a Caprice!
Local county law enforcement has been blessed with the Caprice from Oz!
V8 RWD and I feel it looked pretty sharp! Took a couple of photos but they aren't very good (attenpted while driving...ticket forthcoming?)

Im pretty stoked about this new 9C1 Caprice myself Wink

Im just curious as to what my State Police are going to choose.I mean now that the CVPI is no longer available. They have always been pretty dead set on RWD,V8,sedans and SUV's.

Hey, I know you. ^ lol

We are waiting for a Caprice demo. However, my "new" Impala will just have to do for now. And to be honest, I'm completely satisfied with it.

Who cares what it looks like as long as the air conditioner works and there is ample room up front. That and it isn't on the back of a wrecker being towed in.
Laughing

This is a new age for police agencies. Whatever sedan they go with, no matter what the engine, the car will have at least 300 hp. Having been in a CVPI since 1998 (not including the Impala I took custody of last month), it will be refreshing to be in something different. Granted, the Vics were hard to kill and whatever replaces them will have some big shoes to fill. But this is Chevrolet's big chance to really get back into the police market. However, they are the most expensive with the Caprice right now. At least in this market.

Yeah, our local PD isn't sure what to do now. They just bought a bunch of Crown Vics, but hate all the maintenance these take compared to the Impala. And they refuse to get the Caprice due to the lack of room, ie center console. Rolling Eyes

I have to admit, I've been impressed. And I'm a diehard rear-wheel-drive, V8, body-on-frame guy. Hell, I'll be driving out to our range today to do some shooting and I'll probably jump on the driving track to get some time in with this "new" car. Its fun as hell having those front tires rip.

especially because the taxpayers get to fix it when it breaks, LOL is it just me or is GM going out of it's way to make the flattest seats on the market. they look like they came out of a late 60's front bench seat design and just removed the center portion. my 07's seats aren't uncomfortable, but it would have been nice to have some better side bolster support. i'm not asking for the pillow design found in the 80's regals, but something more bonneville-esque would have been sweet. the GHPD is still styling their vics, but those are getting a little long in the tooth. will be interesting to see what they do with my taxpayer dollars next time around. peace, john

The seats in the '09 aren't too bad. The seat belt buckle section needs to be lengthened a little to accommodate a weapon a little better. The seats also need better weapon cutouts for drawing when seated, but they really aren't too uncomfortable.

Ya buddy! Very Happy

Its a good idea to get as familiar as you can with a new platform police vehicle that you are not used to.I don't see that as being a berden to our tax dollars. Its more about Officer and public safety.....I see that as money well spent.

Don't get to used to that Impala though,im sure it won't be to long and you'll be sporting the new 9C1 Caprice Wink Well thats if your Department gives the green light for it....

We were going to order 25 a couple months ago, but decided to order a second batch of '11 model year CVPIs. We just couldn't say no to the price. The cars themselves were $26k a piece for the Caprice, $19k a piece for the Fords (vehicles alone of course). We saw no need to change platforms with that kind of price difference. Maybe next year, we usually allocate $1.1 million or so for vehicles. And being a taxpayer myself, I appreciate chances to save a couple hundred thousand here and there.

Our dept seems to be well committed to the Charger now. They used to run Caprices back in the day before they were discontinued then ran Crown Vics up until a couple years ago. Now they have an assortment of older style and new style Chargers with a few Expeditions and Explorers mixed in.

The Sheriff's department is actually switching over to 4cyl Ford Fusions. Laughing

We're running a handful of Chargers for our DWI/Traffic guys. They've been good cars and they run extremely well. The Impalas are just now hitting real patrol duty, so we'll see how those go. The K9 units run Expeditions and they suck monkey balls. All of them have had transmissions and rear end problems. So those are getting pulled and replaced with Tahoe PPVs, which our DOT guys run. Those Tahoes have been flawless over the years. The main bulk of cars is the CVPI. You can't kill those cars. Well, I guess Ford can and did. But it will be interesting to see what we start ordering next year.
