I've always wanted a car that could handle, was fast, and also luxurious. Finally got my chance last month after over a year of searching! Very Happy

Its a 2003 BMW 540iA with only 42,000 miles! Its the perfect color/interior combo I wanted, plus navi and cold weather package! I would have loved a 6spd, but this car is virually 98% perfect and I couldnt pass it up. Has newer tires, plugs/coils and valve cover gaskets, plus a recent cooling overhaul.

I took it to a german shop down the street for a PPI, and between 3 mechanics and a gruff German guy, they couldnt find anything really wrong except the usual leaky power steering lines. My own inspection found a dirty air filter and it needs new oil filter mounts lol. Once I have some time, I'll change all the fluids, oils, and flush the brakes unless I find a service record of it. 8 years is definitely time to change the trans and diff oils and brake fluid.

I loooove driving it haha! Best car I've ever driven, and this time I actually own it too! haha 0-60mph is 6.1 sec, and also get 17/21 mpg Shocked Its a beast!

Oh, and its only about 4 months younger than my Impala Laughing Kinda failed at getting a "newer" car!

Why exactly do you need the 'cold weather package' down south? Laughing

Not a bad upgrade. What color is that exactly? It looks like a dark silver or a light gold depending on the lighting.

The heated seats are sooooo nice on the colder mornings. Very Happy But being down here, I'd much rather have ventilated seats, but I dont think the E39's had them.

Its called Sterling Gray, its also been referred to as titanium, its a dark gray color. Its a lot classier than silver, and nearly as hard to keep clean as black. Laughing

Looks good.

My truck is a darker gray, but I find it rather easy to keep clean lol. Doesn't show dirt that easily.

How's the Murano treating you? Now that people are putting miles on em they're part of my job security! Trannies, motor mounts, intake tubes falling off ect ect lol.

Yup! Laughing It has a remote mounted oil filter canister behind the left headlight. For vibration, its mounted using two rubber mounts which tend to shear off because there is no bolt of anything going through them. Rolling Eyes Replaced them with 2 long bolts and 2 rubber stoppers from Lowe's. Laughing

YUP! Twisted Evil Every 2003 540i 6spd got the M-Sport package, about 1,600 cars in all and they also got special VINs! All 540i automatics with the Sport package were bumped up to M-Sport too. The total number of automatics is unknown, but I do know there are 408 Sterling Gray automatics like mine Very Happy

2003 was the last year of the E39 model line, so BMW decided to do something special for the 540i's, they lowered and upgraded the suspension, installed M5-style bumpers, M-Parallel wheels, M-Sport trim all around, high-stall torque converter, different rear differential, and I believe also boosted the hp by a few.

The 2003 540i Sport is quite arguably the best non-M 5-series ever made. Very Happy

Its got about 120k on it, I had it for 2 years than gave it back to the parents and took the Impala back, then had it again a few months after my head gaskets went. Its been very trouble-free so far, it needs a new right axle and oil cooler gasket but otherwise runs fine.

They did have a recall for the intake tubes, it did run like crap when mine popped off a few times.

Where do you work?

My only remaining question is what is our resident junk yard king going to when he has to fix this car? I can't imagine you find many (if any) of these cars at the pull a part lots. Laughing

They're starting to trickle in here and there. Laughing I've actually never fixed my car with anything from the junkyard except for upgraded suspension pieces and body parts Laughing I always buy new parts if they are regular wear-and-tear items. And since this car is loaded with options, there is virtually nothing left to be upgraded, except for maybe park distance control. Laughing

Back in January, there was a 1997 528i at the u-pull-it that I almost completely dismembered, really taught me a TON about these cars! They can be complicated in some areas, but they're pretty simple cars overall. The PCV systems are incredibly complex, but the automatics tend to last till 150-200k. The intake gaskets also go out a lot, but at least they dont flood the engine with coolant. Laughing

Its a fwd, base model S. On the Murano forums, seems that most tranny complaints are from awd owners. Whats your take on the CVT reliability? My dad's thinking of selling ours before it decides to act up, but I think we should be fine since its fwd.
