I agree on exhaust leak. When you gas on it does the smell get worse?

It'll be fine for like 10-15 min then I can smell it strong.what should I look at under the hood? And where at? It's been really wet lately which makes the hour trip home miserable..

my girlfriend had this exact problem in her 2006 corolla. It would be fine for a bit then smell terrible of gas and fumes. She took it to toyota to get it fixed. Turned out it was a leak in the fuel rail or something. I will ask her when she wakes her ass up Laughing

Maybe if its not so rainy today I'll pop the hood and try to figure it out... Either way its cold and the fumes give me a head ache so I only turn it on when I start to fog up... Ughhh

You could start the car and put your hand around the exhaust headers and connection to downpipe before the engine gets too hot - see if you can 'feel' exhaust coming out at these joints.

A gas line leak is pretty serious, but it's not going to smell like exhaust, it's going to smell like gasoline.

It basically smells like fuel, as soon as i need to use the heat I turn it on and that's all I can smell.. I popped the hood today for about 10min gased it a few times while under the hood physically, didn't see any leaks from the fuel rail.. pulled the engine cover off and everything, didn't see any excess fumes coming from the header area either, and it was about 32degrees out today, so you would be able to see it.. since I could see my own breath through my nose. I plan on getting the cabin filter changed, but I don't think that'd be the issue..

Now we know it's a fuel smell. Either leaking injector (externally) but you would notice a skip. Something on the fuel rail. Possible plugged PCV valve are a few suggestions. I'm sure others will chip in here. Good luck. Cool

If you have a fuel leak, for the love of god, please stop driving it and take it to a shop to get it fixed. I don't want to read an "I just torched my car because I didn't find the leak" thread.

I'm coming off unemployment where I was denied because I attend school FT. So I don't have the funds to get it checked out and I have to commute to my new job.
