Guys I need help. I put in a new axle yesterday with a new seal. The seal leaked so i started tearing everything apart to put in a new seal today. The new axle wouldnt come out no matter where i pulled pushed tugged and finally when it broke loose the output shaft came out with it.

How ***** am I? I put the shaft in and it goes into place but doesnt lock. SO what do i need to do?

Not 100% on the repair you have ahead of you, but when I replace the axle, I usually take a 2x4 lay under the middle of the car, place the edge of the board up against part inner part of the axle, and tap it with a hammer until the snap ring comes loose.

The snap rings require a quick "pop" or "hit" to come loose

Did you yank the output shaft the entire way out? If you did you more than likely broke this plastic fluid dam deep inside the trans.

There is a 99.999% chance you are SOL. Removing the output shaft (and then reinstalling it) with the diff side snap ring still attached through the drivers side is bad news bears. That dam requires a complete transmission tear down to replace. If I were you I would remove the passenger side axle and differential and then shine a flashlight down in the hole where the output shaft sits. Make sure you can see the dam and that it's not chewed up. If it looks OK reassemble it and go buy yourself a lottery ticket.

Sounding like s**t is not a helpful diagnostic description of a noise Laughing

There used to be a good write up by Trannyman on grandprixforums.net, try searching over there. You have to take note of the placement of the spacers/thrust bearings.
