3 months ago, my car could not start. I replaced the spark plugs and wires but that did not help. Finally I replaced a new FPR and the car started. It has been running good since then. The only thing is that the fuel meter reading is completely wrong now. But I did not care much about that.

10 days ago, at a gas station, after I filled up the fuel, the car started then died. I tried a few times and it started. Last night, this happened again. I left it for about one hour and it started. Today the driving was okay.

So can somebody tell what problem it might be so that I can be prepared?

Thanks,

When it starts and dies, if you give it gas can it stay running?

The IAC may be failing.

How do I "give it gas"? Step on the gas pedal at that time? I will try next time. Previously I just turned it off.

Yes, if the IAC is failing usually you start the car, it hits idle and then slowly the RPMs drop to 500 and it stalls/shuts off, by pushing the gas pedal down and forcing the RPMs to stay up it keeps the car running.

IAC would most likely be on cold starts (not always), but I would replace that first. I would start looking at the fuel pump because of the mileage (sounds like it may not be priming, or the check valve may be on the way out).

I will try the IAC. And you are right, the fuel pump might be out also.

Thanks.

Pay attention when you start it. On the times that it wont start, can you hear the fuel pump priming?

If you want you can have someone stand behind the car and listen for it.

Thanks for all the response.

I have let my car idle for more than 10 mins without any problem. Does that mean the IAC should be good?
