At 121,415 she's startin to call it quits. Was good while it lasted. I was probably stupid for dropping the pan and putting in a shift kit along with all fresh fluid so late in the game at 110k miles never being serviced before. But, it is what it is.

Here is a video!

Yeah dropping the pan on an old trans is very risky. That's why now, I'm leaving mine alone. You still have a spare Imp. Just need the dead cylinder issue fixed.

We are going to have this transmission re-built while I'm driving around the 2002. And then we are going to drop the 2001 motor and freshly rebuilt transmission into the 2002.

I have the other 3800 tore down to the heads. The intake valve was bent somehow. My dad is getting the new valve and head bolts tomorrow and I'm hoping to have it all back together when I get home from taking my SAT on saturday. We shall see!!!

It should be, going to put the heads on it tonight hopefully and then do another compression test and see what we find. If the compression is not up to where it need's we are going to consider this motor junk and are going to have to revise another plan. Hopefully all goes well.

L26 is the way way to go. It would be nice to just see a next to brand new L26 in an imp

We're about to put the 3800 in the 2002 back together. Replaced the intake valve and fixed the massive compression leak that was giving us, because it was bent. Put the head back on, before we put it all back together we did another compression test and the exhaust valve wasn't seating right. Grinded the exhaust valve seat down a s**t ton because it was pitted to death, and now we have 165psi compression on cylinder #3. Should run good! I'll let you guys know in a couple hours

Put it all back together only to find out cylinder #6 is now dead as well. 50psi of compression, as well as a ticking noise coming from the timing chain area. We called it a lost cause and my dad went out and purchased a motor hoist and an engine stand from harbor freight today. we pulled the motor out of the 2002 today and it is now back behind our shed. What the plan is now. Take the 3800 out of my 2001 that purrs like a kitten (lol) and put it in the 2002. There is nothing wrong with the 2002 transmission (as of right now). Once we get the motor out of the 2001, the transmission in there (121,608miles) is going to be rebuilt. Then the transmission in the 2002 (180kmiles) will come out and the freshly rebuilt transmission will go into the 2002 with the motor from my 2001. I've been taking tons and tons of pictures so I'll start an official build/swap thread lol. I'm now going to have two STBs as well so I'm gonna get the don rome brackets and put those on the 2002 Smile

Starting to put the interior back into the 2002 as there is nothing I can really do else to it right now...

Hope you plan on putting an HD diff in your tranny, it would be a great time to do it since you're rebuilding everything. Stronger is always better Very Happy

Doesn't that require changing the final drive ratio?

The windshield gave into the shuddering today! Had a small chip from a rock in the windshield on the driver side, leaving the neighborhood today it spread down, and going to lunch during school it spread up and to the right. The one went down from the shuddering I'm pretty sure, the other one I think spread because I had my bass all the way up, I noticed it spread as I was driving.

Yes, to 3.29. If you are going to mod your engine, I would consider it, but if not you can leave it be. And if you ever do decide to mod later, it doesn't seem to be too hard to do at a later date, with the transmission in place.

I would have to have my PCM re-tuned for that as well wouldn't I? Probably wont be modding this motor ANY time soon. Looking to just get a reliable car to get me from point A to point B for awhile.

Today was the 01's last day on the road! At 121,718 miles. She's in the garage waiting for me to start disassembling everything to pull the motor when my dad gets home from work tomorrow night. Then Saturday the motor gets dropped into the 2002 and hopefully we will be smooth sailing from there on out. I need to pickup a new idler tensioner setup, heater core hoses, lower and upper radiator hoses, exhaust manifold gaskets, and possibly a fuel filter (don't know when the last time the 02's was changed in 180k miles), all new motor mounts as well (lower - not the dog-bones). Does anyone know where to get the tube for the overflow tank to the radiator?

I've got to say, the interior of the 2002 came out looking GREAT! My dad said it looks like a brand new vehicle inside - it's THAT spotless! Very Happy

Once the 2002 is driveable my dad is going to drive it to work one day and have their windshield guy replace the windshield! The only thing I'm asking for christmas is tinted windows, and vent visors...the vent visors will probably be from my grandma lol.

Anyways, I'll get some pics of the dis-assembly process of the 2001. Going to be a sad sad day.
