Depending on the situation just hitting a deer is a lot safer than trying to avoid. When I hit a deer several years ago it was on a backroad. I just hit the thing rather than swerving and possibly losing control and wrapping the car around a tree. I'd rather take my chances with a 100lb animal than a stationary object lol.

Goodluck getting her fixed up.

Aint that a bitch. I myself almost hit a baby deer just friday morning at 3 am on my way to work. I was driving and the little mofo was just standing there on the freakin road like a dumbass smh. Luckily i swerved to my right and missed it just in time and by seconds and back straight driving. It all happened within 3-4 seconds. Thank god for my suspension mods. Hope everything works out for you monday.

Remember when speaking to the insurance company YOU did not hit a deer, the DEER hit you.

This is the time of the year for that kind of thing with the daylight hours lessening and right now is also the mating season. One almost jumped out in front of me last night. Remember, don't veer for deer.

One hit me about ten years ago, seriously it ran full speed into the side of the car. I only had to pay half of my deductible. One of the guys I work with swerved to miss one and took out his oil pan on the median. Insurance co told him he would have been better off hitting it.

Damage on that doesn't look as bad as it could have been, but it's still a lot. I assume the deer hit the front corner and then, as you were swerving, bounced off the passenger door? I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you. I've been there though, so I understand. It's not fun in the slightest.

About 20 years ago, I was driving my '84 Trans Am down a wooded back road in Northwest Iowa at around 11:00 p.m. I never had a chance to see the deer as it jumped out of the woods right in front of me. Hit it square-on at around 55 mph. The deer bounced off the hood and passenger's side front fender and flew over the car and came down on the driver's side of the spoiler.

That caused some damage.

I'm thinking the deer was killed instantly—obviously broke its neck.

The hood, front bumper and fender were crushed, the headlight mounts (both of them somehow) broke so the headlights were pointing straight up, the spoiler was bent although, strangely, there was no damage to the trunk lid. Plus, all four tires had some serious flat spots because, when I hit the brakes—hard—I locked up the wheels.

I was about 15 minutes from the nearest town and this was before cell phones, so it was an excruciating, slow drive to find the nearest phone to call it in and find a place to stay until I could get a wrecker to get the car home.

The insurance company repaired the car (with junk-yard parts), but it was totaled about 10 years later when it was rear-ended by a kid in a Mustang doing about 60.

I loved that car...

Best of luck to you. Let us know what the insurance company says!
