While I have been through the forum and reading up on swapping a Monte Carlo cluster with oil gauge from a 2002 Monte SS into my Impala LSw/3.8 should just work. What I wasn't clear on was the programming. As I understand it, the programming is only needed to have the cluster display the correct mileage. My 2001 Impala LS currently has 88975 on the clock. The monte the cluster came from had 096870 on it. IF I wait until the Impala has 096870 on it, I shouldn't need any programming, correct? and and the mont cluster will pick right up from the Impala mileage?

Ya you can just wait. The mile memory is in the cluster itself. So when you put the monte cluster in, it will display what the monte has for miles.

I think I have to wait a lot less less. The mileage on the Monte cluster is actually 90678 and not 96780 as I originally typed in. The mileage was correct on the Impala at 88975. Very Happy

At 90k+ miles, make sure the Monte cluster doesn't need a rebuild before you swap it in

You might as well just mail it to BBE now and get the LEDs swapped and everything while you wait for the mileage to catch up

Hah! Salesman!

The LEDs do look very nice, though.
