One of my buddies grand prix is not shifting into forth properly. For instance today he got on the interstate and said it took about 10 miles before it finally shifted into 4th gear. He also said he was having 'intermittent 1st gear problems.'

I'm not too transmission savvy, anyone got any ideas on what would cause this?

Thanks guys.

What year is his GP? 97-02 4T65E transmissions where prone to 4 gear clutch hub failure. Meaning the forth gear would go out. I'm not to certain on the 1st gear issue he's having though. Sad

Pull the dipstick and see what's going on with the fluid. My guess is you'll find filings and clutch debris...
