So the other day my car starts making some hellish rattling noise from around the belt and pulley area. Drove it and its not really noticeable unless your parked and idling. First thought was the coupler in the s/c, replaced it, and its still making the rattling. With the belt off it doesn't seem to be making the noise, all the pulleys seem tight.

Anyone have any ideas what could be making this sound. Its not a knocking sound but a rattling. Is it safe to drive under these circumstances?

Have you checked the Belt tensioner and Idler pulleys?

Also check the belt for a section that might have spit off some of the belt ribs.

I was just going to mention tensioner pulley...or the tensioner itself. The spring may be starting to go and squeak a bit.

On my Tahoe, the tensioner used to squeak and rattle like no other, but I could actually sit and watch it wobble. Yours may not be to that point yet, but that would be the first thing I would check.

Broken bits from the belt will cause some racket. Belts are important to change on the snout-end of the supercharger because when little peices come off, they can quickly cause damage to the supercharger
