Ok guys, I've been looking into getting a second car for awhile, and came upon this listing

http://honolulu.craigslist.org.....00765.html

Basically, should I buy it? I'm mostly worried about the mileage. I'm looking at it tomorrow, so if you have any input, or anything to look for when I see it in person, I'd greatly appreciate it. I know this price is a steal of steals so I'm real interested. I'll let you guys know what all I find out tomorrow. As much opinions as you can generate would be great. Thanks

Get a carfax, have it checked at a shop.

Great deal. As with most things, probably too good to be true.

$3700 for an 06 with 130K miles and newer paint screams colision repair with a salvage title or previously salvaged title.

With mileage like that I be worried about issues with suspension, Transmission, GM standard wiring and computer problems, AC, Alternator, Power steering.

Are you ready to replace these things as needed?

Don't expect the truth... get the VIN and run a Carfax on it.

Alright I'll get a carfax. Do they cost money? Or much? The vin is bottom drivers side of windshield, correct? If it can last another 30-50k miles without any huge repairs I'd be fine. I'd be willing to change parts like waterpump, alternator, power steering pump, etc. but not the transmission.
Or do you guys think I should get something I don't want like a focus or something with 50-60k miles?

There is a fee for getting a Carfax but I don't know how much it is.

Nobody is telling you to buy something you don't want - but this car is suspiciously cheap, so investigating it as much as possible may save you a lot of headaches later.

Do you need another car? Wouldn't make sense to get something you don't need or want. I thought I remember you wanting a car for your gf, or maybe that was someone else. If that's the case doesn't she get a say in what she's gonna drive lol

As mentioned do your due diligence before buying as there are a couple red flags with this car.

have a trusted mechanic? bring the car to them and have it checked out. Probably cost $50-$100 for the inspection, but well worth it if there is something wrong that you cant see.

One time carfax about $35 - 40. You have to get a mechanic to check it, or you will be sorry. It's used could be abused. Good luck. Cool

Ya I am looking for one for my gf lol, but this car is a no. Saw it yesterday. So many things threw flags in my mind that I just said no. Ended up finding out it's owned by a shop that bought it off an insurance auction, from which previously it was in an accident while a vehicle for the military police... Everything you don't want it a car. I just kinda laughed when I got to looking at it. It was painted black OVER the white. Yes, it was chipping in spots and you could see the white under neath. Crappiest paint job ever x2 I literally think it was done with a rattle can. It had vinyl rear seat with cloth front buckets with no center console, but had carpet, but get this... There was a hole where the spot light used to be on the inside a pillar but not the outside... I don't wanna know how they did that. Also the A/C wasn't cold, check engine light was on and I also cought them up in a whole bunch of lies.... Just thought I'd say all this b/c it's kinda funny to me.

Anyway, still on the hunt for another car. I'm thinking I should just buy a $1500-2000 car that has lowish miles and runs good. I won't be driving it anyway, but I just can't stand the fact that I'd be buying a car that I'd never myself choose.
Thanks for the advice guys

I've seen all those on there lol. But the only problem I have is I don't believe the mileage on the first buick, the second one is a little more old style that I was wanting, and the last one has more miles than I was looking for and is at the higher end of my budget.

What about this? http://honolulu.craigslist.org.....95620.html
I'm going to look at it today. It was on there for $3000. Guy said that he took it in for the safety inspection b/c its due this month and the guy at Lex Brodie's told him the rack and pinion needs replaced. The owner doesnt know why b/c he says it drives perfect. Anyway, quoted that at $500 something for them to do it. I don't know why they would be inspecting it that close, when I go to get an ispection, they just make sure the lights, turnsignals, and horn work and that the tint is legal. That and the a/c needs looked into. He said it just stopped working about 3 years ago and he never looked into it. Anyway, good deal? $1000 and 68,000 miles sounds good to me!

So, looked at that Grand Prix yesterday. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy it. Here's what I've found out:
-Only has 68k miles
-Drives real good, smooth
-Transmission seems to be ok, nothing wierd between 1-2-3, never got to 4th yet.
-No accidents
-Couldn't tell anything wrong with the steering, apparently it's just a slow leak
-I'm sure the A/C just needs recharged. The compressor kicked on and everything
-Clock doesn't work
-It's got some scratches and dings, interior has some wear, but not bad, no odor
-Check engine light turned on when I was driving it.
So I want to go get the code checked at a shop before I buy it.

What do you think?
