Anybody ever replace their instrument cluster? I see they are available from rockauto.com and they require you to tell them your mileage so they can program it for you. Just wondering what keeps someone from telling them a lower mileage figure? There are many dishonest people around and it looks like easy odometer fraud to me! Am i missing something?

I thought the same thing when I was browsing rockauto a couple weeks ago. They may check the mileage on your original odometer when you send it back to get the core charge. Not 100% sure, but I know where you're coming from.

I didnt know they sold clusters, just looked it up, very interesting.

I'm guessing at $500 a pop, unscrupulous people arent going to be ordering too many.

Used clusters are $40-75 depending on where you get them, but these cars are getting older and its hard to find them with less than 100k anymore.

I sell used clusters and offer cluster mileage programming as well as cluster upgrades.

I require an mileage disclosure statement to be completed and signed before i will program it

Thanks guys, just wondering about the clusters. There are many people who will lie and sign their name to it without a problem. I will be in the market for a used car in the near future and am considering the Impala. This site gives me a wealth of knowledge as I consider my purchase.

Thanks,

when i got my digital dash for my 79 they never asked for millage or anything but even if they did it would be a total guess. Also lets say you total your car and the insurance company wants to know the millage to see if you only did the amount you said you were going to so they can use that against you. I lost my key is what I told the one guy who came out to look at my car. Told him they were in the car when they towed it away they must have taken them out. Then I told him the dash is out of a junk yard car due to gms crappy dashes, and whos to say the po didnt swap the dash out and change the millage.
