Buying a used trailer hitch in great condition tonight but the guy selling doesn't have the bolts as a dealer removed it from his Impala before he sold the car.

Anyone know what nuts bolts and washers are required for installation

Thanks

Is there a Uhaul dealer in your area? The bigger locations install hitches daily and would be able to help, not something you want to leave to chance!

Yes I stopped by Uhaul today and they told me the bolts/hardware could not be ordered without buying a new hitch..sounds like a lot of BS to me.

Who is the hitch made by? You may be able to contact them directly and ask to buy the necessary parts. Your car may need shims or other parts in addition to the bolts and nuts!!! Download the instructions if they have them online also, it'll tell you more about what parts you need.

How good of a deal are you getting? Hitches can be found cheap brand new, so paying a little more for a brand new one may save you a lot of headaches.

Check Hidden hitch's web site, they have an installation sheet that gives the size of carriage bolts and nuts needed. The sheet will also give you directions for mounting, it's an easy download. Good luck!

I had all parts for a hitch I was selling for $40. I'm not sure what deal you got but I think some bolts from the hardware store will work. The direction of force would have to be great to break them. I probably will be corrected on this, its just my opinion. The ones installed came from U-haul and looked like just standard bolts. They also had washers if that makes a diff.

Use Grade 8 bolts. Don't skimp on hardware. Go to Fastenall if you don't know what I'm talking about, not Home Depot or Lowes or Meynards. They have people who actually know what they're doing there.

I purchased a used hitch and ordered the installation kit from a local Hidden Hitch dealer. Took about a week or so to come in.
