So I've had a chip in my windshield from a rock for a long time.
I was kinda putting off getting it fixed, kinda hoping it would spread or shatter so I could get a new windshield, this one is pretty scratched up and just bugs me sometimes.
Needless to say, a watched pot never boils, so a watched windshield chip never cracks.
I've heard all the Safelite Autoglass ads saying how there's usually no out-of-pocket with most insurance companies, so I've been meaning to call them but again, kept putting it off.
I saw a guy with a big banner on his truck stating all the things Safelite says, so I stopped and talked with him, we called my insurance and he did the work right there.
He's mobile, so if he gets a call he goes wherever, if he doesn't have any jobs he just finds a high traffic area and tries to drum up some business.
I felt a little weird about it at first, but my insurance company approved it, had him listed as a preferred repair shop, so I went with it.
He did a good job, it is much less noticeable and seems pretty well sealed.
Just wanted to report that and see if anyone else has done this.

Yes, have this done all the time. usually get one done per year.
The Buick has had 5 chips fixed going back maybe 5 years. Have 1 on the Lumina going back 6 years. You can still spot the chip but they don't spread.

Safelite does a lot of this around here. Seems Utah has 2 Seasons. Winter Season and Road Construction Season. Some part of I-15, I-80 , I84 or surface streets have been under repair or Rebuild since 2 years before the Olympics were announced back in 2000. There are Chip repair stands set up all over in the road construction season.

I had a chip filled on my impala 4 years ago. Just about 6 months ago I was washing my car and I guess the freezing cold water on a burning hot windshield was enough to make it spread. Granted, it's only about an inch and half both ways out of the chip, but it's definitely noticeable. If your windshield is severely pitted like mine is from highway driving and rocks pitting it, I'd just replace it. No more than $300 and you don't have to worry about a chip spreading, or the nasty pitted-ness anymore.

I called my insurance once for a chip in my windshield. Only way they cover is with a zero deductible on the comprehensive side. Mines set at $100. But the guys around here charge $50 ish.

I had one done on the Monte Carlo a few years back (about 6 months before a larger rock took out the windshield for good). You couldn't see it unless you knew it was there, at some angles it kind of looked like a smudge on the glass, but it was otherwise a great investment, IMO.

My windshield looks like A$$ when the sun is out, and here in Florida it looks like it a lot. Its pitted and looks like it has been through a couple of sand storms. So I am thinking that a rock might hit mine soon Wink Laughing ..

Same here, might just get mine replaced as a christmas gift or something. It's hard as hell to see through it when driving against the sun.

We don't have windshield coverage on my Impala. Just liability because the car is so old.

I'm hoping to get my car back tonight, no promises though. Sad Definitely going to get the dual exhaust from the 07 Imp SS tonight though!

Your car is not that old, I have full coverage because I have my family in the car a lot and don't want to hear sorry your were not covered for that, just fix it or give me a check. The price difference was not that much but we have a 06 Galant and my Impala full coverage and its about 140 - 160ish a month.

Hm, that's something to look into. I think full coverage insurance for a 16 year old is higher than it is for adults who have had their licenses for a much longer time.

You are very right, your insurance will go down at 21 a little and 25 some more then also when your married again all provided you don't get tickets and or accidents. I thought you were on your parents insurance. I had the bare minumum for a long time and when I got married is when I put full coverage on, but I also had way toooooo many tickets so that's the other reason I had the basic coverage.

I have a speeding ticket. I am on my parents insurance, but we're not TOUCHING my coverage because the insurance rate still hasn't gone up because of the ticket. Woot
