Hi everybody, I am new to the forum and joined looking for some help with two questions.

I have a 2004 base model impala with 61k on it. The only additions I made to the car was installing a new cd player and adding a python alarm/remote starter. Both these upgrades were made several years ago. The car is running great but lately I have been annoyed by two frequent problems.

The first was water leaking onto the passenger floor. I initially thought it was condensation from a plugged up AC drain but thanks to IffyG's post of frequent problems I realize I need to fix the seal and change the cabin air filter which I will try tomorrow.

The second problem that I still can't figure out is the courtesy lights. A few weeks ago my dome light stopped working when the doors are opened, or the alarm is unlocked. The light also does not function when I try to turn it on manually with the headlight knob (footwell lamps do turn on when I do this). The map lights only turn on when I turn them on manually. After checking all the fuses and bulbs, I thought it might be a bad BCU and brought it to my mechanic. He did some diagnostic work and believes there is a short somewhere in the wiring and said there was nothing to indicate a bad BCU.

Has anyone encountered this problem and had any luck tracking down the cause? If I can't find the short or bad ground would I do any harm by running new wires to splice the dome light into one of the footwell lights which are functioning normally? Could it be a bad headlight switch unit? I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.
