Hey guys, had to fill up today after about a week and a half of driving. I was down at 1/8th of a tank, wanted to see how much I could get mileage wise when I'm driving around town and such. I filled up with regular unleaded and got 15.19 gallons; low fuel light wasn't on yet. On my trip-meter I had 345miles on that tank! I averaged that out to about 22.6 MPG , not too bad if you ask me! What I did prior to this tank was replacing the PCV Valve and the o-rings, cleaned my throttlebody again, cleaned MAF Sensor, and also reset the PCM so it would relearn all fuel trims and such. I had brought my car to my dad's shop, took the injectors off and had them cleaned, weren't too bad but it needed to be done. All in all, I think what I did helped somewhat. Haven't gotten my tuned PCM in the mail yet, but hopefully once I get that in, my MPG's will only increase. Around town I'm keeping RPM's under 3k, and occasionally around 4k if I need to pull out quickly. These motors are gas hogs, but if you learn to be easy on the throttle you can pull these MPG's easily!

Just wanted to share my experience...

That's not too bad of an mpg for town. I have the 3400 and I usually average 25-26 and idk how much is town and highway but the longest part of highway is about 10 min at 45mph on my normal 30 min commute. Average 24 with the A/C. I've pretty much learned how to get good mpg tho, these numbers don't reflect it that much but if it was strictly highway like I used to drive when I lived on the mainland, I could get 36 mpg. I think you can get better because although I don't have a tach, I can tell you my rpms rarely get to 3k. Try to drive with nothing higher than 2-2300 and see what they yields you. If you can't figure out how to do that because the car doesn't shift that early, try doing what I do. I give it some gas, then right when I know if CAN shift, and that just takes time to figure out, I let off some but not completely then do it over again. Not sure if it'll be the same on your car, but for me its at 12-13mph, 26-28mph, and 42-44mph.

I get 26 mpg every fillup with normal driving. My fuel sending unit is broken, so I just hit the trip meter and fill up when I hit 300 miles, then I can fit 11.5 gallons in it.
I wish this 2000 had a bigger gas tank.

I wish this 2000 had a bidder gas tank.

If I remember correctly all 00-05 impalas have a 17gallon tank. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine is around 12 gallon. Not sure who's idea that was, but it really is inconvenient. Evil or Very Mad

I would consider swapping in a 17 gal tank if it would fit.

From what I hear the 12 gals. are very rare. I don't see why you couldn't swap in a 17.
