Does the whole assembly require replacement if only 1 of the 2 fans go bad?

It looks like one assembly to me, but not sure. Here's some pictures.

I'd just replace the entire assembly. Odds are if one goes, the other isn't too far behind if they're the original. I replaced mine when I replaced my radiator. The fans are a lot quieter now too.

Yes. On the earlier Impalas, the motors are riveted to the shroud and NOT replaceable. Later models have replaceable motors.

The fans are around $100 on rockauto.com, or you can pick them up locally at Advance Auto for a few bucks more if you use some of the discount codes that can be found at www.slickdeals.net. I picked up mine locally for about $110 this way. Very Happy

I had one of my fans go out not more than 3 months ago. I just went to the local auto parts store and picked up a new one. I recall paying less than $100.

Look up ALL the auto parts places in your area and call each one for a price quote and if they have it in stock. This was how I found one for so cheap.

Putting it in was a complete different matter. Took the better part of 5 hours, but it is in and has been working perfectly since then!

Good Luck!
