I want brighter headlights. I know what I am proposing is illegal but the chance of being caught is pretty slim.
Does any one know which would produce a brighter light. 80w halogen bulb or HID setup? For this discussion we will stay with just low beams.
With the 80w bulb I would use 12g wire and a relay.
I had this setup in my Jeep and it made quite a difference (80w). As long as the lights are adjusted properely, blinding others should not be an issue.
So what do you all think?
Thanks Cool

i'd go for a 35 watt or 55 watt hid set up and run the relays to power the ballasts. I think the halogen at 80 watts will create so much heat it may melt the plastic lense.

I"ve had 55 watt hids in mine now (heads and fog) for 3 years running 10,000 k and have been awesome. I"ve put in a set of 8,000 k bulbs in it last year, sick of the blue, something a little less ricerish and more brighter.

No need for high beams on the highway with both the heads a fogs at 55 watts, thats my experience.

I could do that. The Jeep had glass lights so heat was not a problem.
The 8K bulb will give me a whiter light, do not want blue or blueish.
Thanks. Cool

With 80 watt bulbs people will be following you home with a baseball bat to put them out permanently. I wonder if you ever asked the people in the oncoming cars whom you were blinding if those 80 watt bulbs weren't "an issue"?

Forget the people he was blinding, I'd be more worried about burning up the wiring harnesses...

DennisW .. in the jeep that had 80w bulbs, the design of the headlight was a european one, therefore the light was shining to the right which was also a bennefit cause it lit up the side of the road more.
IffyG . . .I said I was using 12g wire and relays. Cool
And as mentioned, with the plastic impala lens I would not put an 80w bulb in there.

If I'm not mistaken 8000K HIDs will still be blueish. Stock lights on most modern BMWs are 4300K and those have no blue in them, all white. If you are really trying to avoid that blueish look I'd go no higher than 5000K (if you can find some) or 6000K.

I have the 5000K HID bulbs/relay harness and am very happy with them.

Can you please tell me your reason why? Not trying to be a dick but I have the High beam mod done and with both low and high beam HID's both on at the same time, it's insanely bright, and if you knew how dark and deserted the roads are in NC, especially out in the farm lands; you'd want both to be HID's...trust me, it's a necessity. Of course I shut off the high beams immediately when I see someone else coming.

OK, IffyG, I do not wish to be, in your opinion classed as a moron, as you think Billy 101 must now be. Now that's just hurtful. Crying or Very sad

Are not high beams aligned differently than low beams? therfore when switched on will light up the road further on than just low beams. Hence the need for a brighter high beam. Billy101 I'm with you here, us morons must band together. Laughing

I have no experience with hid's so that is why I was asking.Do the low beam hid's cast as far as high beams? Cool
