I have an 04 impala and I was looking to swap out some things. I want a new head unit (preferably a touchscreen one) and some subwoofers for the trunk. Should I replace the factory speakers inside the car too?

I personally think you should you will get a better sound quality. If you put subs in without the interior speakers you might drown out the stockers

okay cool. You know of any good, inexpensive brands? I hate to go cheap but I had to drop 1400 on body work as result of an accident.

Pretty much anything that isn't bottom of the barrel is going to sound better than stock. I'd recommend checking Crutchfield for detailed information and then buying from Amazon. I just picked up a set of speakers for my Monte Carlo for half of what Crutchfield wanted for them.

Use Crutchfield to find out what you need to install aftermarket stuff in your car. ie, replacing speakers, wiring harnesses, dash kits, etc. and only use Crutchfield to find out that information. Their stuff is usually pretty overpriced. I replaced my front speakers with MB Quart FSA216 Component speakers, $59.99, and replaced the rears with MB Quart FTA169 3-Way 6x9's. It was a HUGE improvement even with the stock radio installed. Now that I have a amp on the front speakers, still running the rears off my aftermarket Kenwood KDC-BT945U headunit, along with my 2 12s on 800 watts, the speakers keep up VERY well. They sound GREAT, especially for the price you can't beat it. I've had these installed since September 26th of 2010, still going strong.

Another decent site to check out for info is Sonic Electronix. I don't have any experience buying from them but I've heard a few things that make me skeptical. My friends ordered a few cheap Hifonics amps from them and they work fine and he likes them. Maybe do a quick google search before you buy from them if you choose that site.

They are authorized retailer of a bunch of brands like Kicker and MTX but I've read that they sell JL products that have scratched out serial numbers....that's f*cked up... And the warranties they offer are sh*t.

But they have pretty cheap prices.

I was thinking about getting this radio and sub combo from SonicElectronix

what do you guys think? I may end up going with a cheaper radio, but still a pioneer one.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I view Visonik products as being 'Pepboys Specials' and therefore wouldn't be putting them in my car on those grounds.

That seems pretty ok for a first system (I'm assuming it is). Don't expect those subs to be straight pounding like crazy and rattling your car apart. Kenwood isn't a top of the line audio company but they do have pretty good quality products. Visonik on the other hand is a bottom shelf, low end company but to start with it won't kill you.

I've never worked with a big touch screen deck so I don't know what you'll need, but I just bought a basic JVC deck and I needed a dash kit, aftermarket antenna adapter, and I needed a radio replacement kit instead of a harness. It's because all the chimes n sh*t would have been affected. Pretty stupid because it cost an extra $100 bucks.

My 2 cents . . . Polk make excellent speakers, not overly expensive either. Cool

Agreed. I would never use them, but my first system was a magnum (made by mtx) one of those cheap 200 dollar packages and if you are just looking for a little bump they are not bad for 200. Just don't expect miracles, and dont expecct to be anywhere near a competition level sound.

Okay thanks for the input. I'm an impulse buyer so I'm glad I read this first lol. How do these speakers look?

And I think I'm gonna go with this radio.

There's nothing wrong with Pioneer speakers, but I think you can do better for the money.

I'm partial to MB Quart, simply because that's all I've ever run mids/highs speaker wise. I've LOVED the output and simply the quality of the set.

Here's what I would get if I was starting out all over again and know what I know now.

That sure is a nice headunit, I wish I had one as nice as that but I've got a simple single din Kenwood BT945U. Had it for 8 months, never had one issue. Smile

Not too sure if you have a specific price range/budget for your headunit but if you give us a price you're looking to stay around let us know and I'm sure some of us won't mind helping you out.
