Just got done watching the news, gas stations are lieing on how much you get.
say you put $20 in, well you are actually getting less........................ They are calling it phantom gas and its been going on for more then 2 years and gas stations have no plan on changing this!
This is just NDP drivel, hoping to increase their popularity like any political party does from time to time.
They are simply stating that they estimate Canadians are paying up to 20 million dollars extra due to faulty pumps. They haven't presented any evidence of these faulty pumps in any form (that I could find).
Surely some pumps out there are faulty, and there should be someone independently checking the accuracy of the measurement equipment - as should be done for anyone selling products by weight or volume.
Do you truly think that the measurement devices on gas pumps only fail in one way - resulting in them overcharging us for fuel? What about a failure in the devices that results in lower fuel volumes being recorded than what it actually being dispensed? Impossible?
I figure that gas station operators would want to keep an eye on receipted volumes sold in comparison to what they are buying from shipment trucks (what is going in vs. what is going out)... if the two are not copacetic, it is going to prove difficult to balance things at the bottom line.
If each station were to be audited where they had to provide their receipts for fuel purchased by the station, and then provide receipts for the fuel sold to the public, the numbers ought to match or the station operator will have serious explaining to do.
I don't know about Canada but I believe pumps are checked down here from time to time for that type of thing.
Jesus created the internet and puppies and dandelions and kittens and sunny days and lollipops and impalas and turbochargers and pizza and beer and wings and boobies and blowjobs and pizza and pizza and pizza and beer and snow days and football and cheerleaders and drag radials and nascar and everything else that's awesome.
It's hard to find retards of this quality in such masses. It's truly amazing.
Was it talking about the fact that they volume correct to 15 degrees celcius?
it means you get less volume of gas when it's really cold, but that gas is denser so you're actually getting the same amount. Probably wasn't talking about that though.

In the US, regulations for accuracy are handled by a weights and measure inspector, but those are always administered at the state level or below. NJ for example is handled at the county level. There are no federal standards for pump accuracy AFAIK.
